I have just caught up with this whole thread.

I felt crushed to read what you will be facing, but then so grateful to read that there is no involvement beyond the lung.

You are so amazing to have the positive mental attitude that you do.

Yes, it can be shocking to think about what medical procedures can involve. You are smart to put that book away and continue to focus on what good doctors you have.

You are greatly loved here, as well as IRL. Tons of support from both places.

Please keep us posted.

Lots of prayers while we wait for updates.

I just caught up as well. Great news on the lymph nodes! That is so huge!!

You've totally got this. I will be thinking of you the day of your surgery. I've been reading up on lung cancer recently (stbx issues) and I understand it's very rare to catch it early. I'm so relieved for you! As mentioned above, a simple snip snip, cut it out, and you are back to your badass self.

No more googling or reading surgery books. Breathe, meditate, get to your Zen place. These surgeons are pros. You are in good hands. Please keep us updated.

Whatsright and WhotheBleep - thank you! I DO feel so fortunate that it was caught early. I have PNEUMONIA to thank for that! Had I not been CT scanned in the hospital for pneumonia, I would NOT have known! I understand it's rare to catch it early like this and I feel blessed.

I did find out that I will be on my side and asleep when they do the procedure. The incision is 5.5 inches to 7 inches long. YIKES - on my back, right side. But what a small price to pay to be cancer-free and not have radiation and chemo. They are saying I have lots of CT scans in my future for the first two years following surgery. I am definitely going to ask ... before surgery ... that they have plenty of pain meds ready for me. I've discovered I'm such a WIMP about pain.

Whatsrigh! PLEASE see if your insurance covers any home health care for your H !!! You are going to drop from exhaustion and you NEED to take care of your health needs too. We all care!!

Gosh, JG, I didn't know it was that kind of book! I thought it probably explained what to expect in words, mostly at least. Pictures can certainly be problematic when they are too graphic.

Reminds me of some people I heard earlier this year when they said that, "maybe more people would opt to get the COVID vaccine if they would just stop showing the damned needles going into people's damned arms every time they talked about it on the TV news".

Just got a call. My surgeon is on call this week at the hospital and has two emergency heart surgeries -- so my surgery is put off until Thursday or Friday. They will call me. I was psyched up to go .... and now this call to wait.....

Oh well, at least it makes me feel like I'm not an 'emergency' patient!

It was seeing pictures of c sections that had me terrified of having one. And reading horror stories of woman who had had complications.

Nope i would have been better off not knowing. Wh said during the c section of dd they had my insides on the outside and that was one part of me he never wanted to see again lol.

Im sorry youve been delayed again but your correct in that if it was an emergency they would have had you in already.

(((JG))))

Sorry to find out about the delay. Thats unfair please take the extra time to eat lots of healthy protein and be kind to yourself. Rest eat healthy and get ready.

As far as pain goes do NOT be afraid to speak up and ask for more or better meds. Ask about anti inflammatory meds in addition to narcotics. Ask about medicine for nerve pain as those incisions for your surgery tend to follow them and they may work better or help with the pain. It is important for you to walk a lot to prevent losing strength and preventing blood clots. It is important for you to deep breath and cough after surgery to prevent post anesthesia pneumonia. If your pain isn't manageable then you won't do it.

Know that this isn't forever even when it feels like it in the middle of recovery. Rest and sleep when you feel like it. If you aren't eating much or have low appetite then make sure you have good quality protein shakes on hand like Muscle milk or Premier Protein. They taste better and have better nutrition than that shit the hospital will give you (ensure or boost blech).

Ask for help. Hire a housekeeper. Get good meals delivered. Be kind to yourself. Lastly if you find you are feeling down and blue know it is normal and part of recovery from anymore surgery and if you can't shake it let your PCP know. Chemical imbalances happen when you have a major surgery and event. Even if you get good news. Its not you its chemistry.

Sending you tons of mojo prayers and thinking about you.

Tushnurse, thank you SO MUCH for this wonderful advice.

I was so ready to get this over with but I'm so glad my surgeon can possibly save the lives of two people -- so I can wait a few hours!

It's Thursday afternoon already, and no report yet???

I hope the surgery went well.

Let me add to tush's advice that you use a stool softener if you're using opioids.

Being a wimp about pain may actually be healthy.
