We decided as a family, to stay home and have the four of us make dinner. So hubby and I are eating vegan, DD and her boyfriend are eating traditional fair. DD is funny she doesn’t want turkey unless their is dark meat. I was going to do a breast. Found turkey legs for her! I can make vegan versions of most things.

What is everyone else doing?

Basically just having a meal with family members we either live with or see frequently.

Windows open, masks on (except to stuff our faces), no hugs, etc.

No extended family this year. 😢

Going solo. Usually spend it with cousins and their families and close friends, but many are over 70, 1 has cancer, 1 is pregnant... we decided to not gather.

May make cioppino since I can do whatever I want :-)

Solo here too. No one in my family is getting together. All the kids and their kids will stay in their own homes to be safe. But I'm fixing the traditional meal, at least the dishes I love, since it is my favorite meal and I love to cook. I will make a soup from the small carcass once I've picked the meat off. Also one of my favorite meals.

PricklePatch, I've seen lots of options in turkey pieces-parts in stores. I read that turkey farmers are doing that to survive this year. When the pandemic set in, they were already committed to plans for what they would grow and there are millions of turkeys that otherwise would not be sold because there are not large gatherings as usual, so people are not looking for 20+ pound birds in the usual numbers. So if they can make shoppers happy to find a half-breast or the breast plus thigh pieces I saw in one supermarket, at least that much will be purchased and consumed.

Whatever works.

My kids are all home from college and will be pretested before they return. My boyfriend is coming and my oldest child’s girlfriend is also coming. It’s going to be a lot like last year but slightly smaller. We’ll play cards after dinner until very late. I can’t wait!!!

It's just me and my SO, since I am immuno-compromised from previous chemo and he is older (but healthy as they come). We're doing the traditional: roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, brussels sprouts, cranberry sauce and apple pie.

I'm making a cool appetizer I saw on line: you take crescent roll dough, cut into about 3" squares or so, nest into a mini-muffin pan, cube brie cheese and put a cube in each and then top with cranberry sauce. Voila--baked brie bites!

I, too, love making things with turkey leftovers. Hot Browns, anyone?

We are doing the 3 of us that live in this house, H, Son, and then my Daughter who I have not seen since August, and her BF are coming home for 10 days. My MIL who is in our bubble is also coming.

Smoking a large breast, and keeping it small and simple.

It will be a fun 10 days though as my daughter has adopted a dog, and has a cat that will come to my home.... so we will be at 3 dogs and 3 cats for a portion of the time, our second lab is back at the trainers finishing his HRC training so he can get his Finished title this winter. My one cat hates the chocolate lab, and my daughters cat. So it will be a fun time. LOL.

So smoked turkey, garlic mashed potatoes, spinach souffle, cranberries, roasted sweet potatoes, and brussel sprouts in vinegarette with honey. Not all traditional fare, but it's what my crew loves.

It's just going to be the people in my house (albeit, there are several of them laugh ). We haven't decided what we're having yet, but we decided we're going the non-traditional route this year. We may end up with tacos or something. grin

Flying totally solo this year (well, with the co-pilot dog as always). Actually we'll be dog-sitting his BFF during that time, so there will be lots of canine fun going on. (And someone else to help play wear-out-Chili's-dog).

I struggled a little coming up with a new tradition for myself - thought maybe I'd make something random like Thai food. Decided instead to reclaim and support a favorite restaurant by signing up for a carryout Thanksgiving dinner. Minimum order was for 2 - but hey - leftovers are always required, right?

(And the dogs just might need a tiny bite of Thanksgiving turkey too I'm thinking).

Just the 2 of us. I'm feeling sorry for myself. This is the first time in 15 years and probably the 3rd time in 40+ years we're not with my family for Thanksgiving. My mom is over 100, so this could be her last one.

But we'd have to travel 2000 miles round trip, and that's just not a good idea this year, especially since we're in a hot spot.

Besides, my mom is in an assisted living facility, and they wouldn't let us in....

My older 2 will be with their dad. My husband and younger 2 are going to his mom's house. His aunt and 2 brothers are doing their own thing. My parents and brother (and his family) are doing their own thing. It's going to be very different. My brother suggested a zoom call at some point, but I haven't heard any specifics. We did that for Easter and it was a bit chaotic.

MIL is making the usual - turkey, stuffing, potatoes and Brussels sprouts cuz she likes them! We're bringing a veggie tray instead of a salad and a side vegetable to warm up with a pie for dessert!

My kids will be at their mothers house on Thanksgiving. But we are doing all the fixings on Saturday, just the 3 of us. My brother and nephew live 5 miles away but since covid we haven't seen each other. My nephew is a cancer survivor and isn't taking any chance. The last time I didn't have my kids I found a Mexican restaurant that was open. I think another burrito is in order this year too! Be safe everybody!

I'm sorry Sisoon. My favorite part of the holidays are big gatherings too. We never quite know who is coming until they walk through the door.

This year, small, mostly outside around the firepit. Christmas morning will be a bit hard but I decided we are opening our gifts altogether via zoom.

Next year in person! God willing!

My sister has decided to have our 83 year old Dad and our other sister over. I don't want to go for a number of drama related reasons. Her house is the size of a postage stamp. My nieces are both going to their in-laws.

I liked the idea Dad had suggested. Everyone makes something with someone making the turkey. Then we make a schedule and make brief stops outside everyone's house to pickup what that person made. Later, we Zoom or Facetime while eating. I said it's like Thanksgiving trick or treating. Seems fun to me, but my sister shot it down. Probably because it wasn't her idea.

I've heard of others planning to share Thanksgiving dinner the way your Dad suggests. It sounds perfect to me for those who live close enough to do it. Too bad it didn't fly.

We are going to my parents. We have talked about it extensively. The kids and I have been going to school - no one on our campus has tested positive. We had one teacher and two students who had to quarantine due to exposure to a positive family member, but the three of them tested negative more than a week ago (2 weeks after their exposure). My husband works, but he drives a truck alone. My parents live on 13 acres in a county where the calculated risk of contacting virus is less than 10%. We will drive straight there (save one bathroom stop), stay at their house the entire time and then come straight home. A quarantine will be almost built in (save for groceries, which I can have delivered), because we are 100% remote learning after today. We decided it was worth the calculated risk.

If the weather holds up and it's warm enough (right now the forecast is good), we will have our local daughter and son-in-law over for dinner. They can access our patio without going through the house. We will stay outside the entire time they're here, except for any potty breaks. But we made it clear that it won't be a many-hours long event. Basically long enough to eat dinner, let it settle and have desert, then they leave.

We finally just made this decision this morning.
