MH, my deepest condolences.
People like you and DS are so rare. You both have made a difference to thousands of band-aid hearts over the years and that is so very special.
Sending you prayers.
13 years later...finally healed. Definitely survived and thrived and you can, too.

I am very sorry for your loss.
Most folks' memorial is a stone marker and a box of photos. DS' legacy spans helping over 55,000 people and their children and--ultimately their children's children. Her memorial is global, enduring, and active. She left her mark on this world.

I am so sorry to read this today. I have been here a short time compared to others here but I am so grateful to her and you both for this site born of your love for each other and the pain you suffered through together. I know there are no words to comfort you but you are in my thoughts today and prayers and I will be making another donation to this site in her name.

You and DS are loved by such a wide circle of people - I feel like a dear person who was such a big part of my life has passed.
Despite the pain that brought me here, I only have memories of joy when I think of you and DS. I loved pictures of your parties, of the pool under construction (and Teddy on his raft!), and of Penny the turtle coming for her strawberry snack. You both showed us all how to live with JOY and grace.
I want to add my hugs, tears, and support, MH.
Requiescat DS in pace.

I cannot even formulate words...
I think deep in our spirits there is a question that plaques us throughout our lives: Do I matter?
It starts out early...a question of our worth. But as we evolve - usually as result of pain - that question becomes so much deeper, more global, and more indicative of our intuitive eternal spirit. We want to know that we made a difference by being here...that everything we have done and experienced had not just a purpose...but a specific purpose to make the world better.
I don't think there is any doubt that DS fulfilled that purpose.
It's great when we can step in and protect the environment.
It's wonderful when we can support building wells and providing clean water.
Or we take a yearly mission trip to build homes in third world countries.
These things all matter...and it matters greatly that we live in accordance with our own purpose.
But when you don't just step up but you also step IN...when you come face-to-face with suffering on a daily basis and helping doesn't just become a part of your life but rather instead actually your life....when you show up every single day...although often tired and battle-weary...then you really do live a life that matters.
Big hugs to you, MH. For the life you have lived beside her, the quiet but just as important support for her calling, for living your purpose..and for the emptiness I know you must now feel. When your purpose is such greatness, there is never a sense of having had enough time.... I pray that you feel her close to you every single day.

I've been sitting here, literally for hours trying to come up with the right words. Thank you SI community for saying so eloquently what I wish I could say, but have been unable to formulate in a coherent way.
What I can say is that I am a better person for knowing DS and MH. If I can be half as gracious through any challenge that comes my way, I will consider that a win.
