Maybe I'm just toooooooo impatient and worried, but DS3, who has suffered a concussion, traumatic brain injury after being dropped flat on the back of his head, then a menengitis with a tear in the meninges in the area. At the moment it's too small to operate (according to the top drs in the country, so I believe them).
He's having daily physio, focusing on the head area that's affected. That's supposed to help, at least in theory, idk.
Anyway, every other day or so he is still vomiting and has nausea. Still sensitive to light.
I'm going crazy with the waiting.
Any advice from the med peeps, and extra mojo would be MOST gratefully appreciated.
Thank you all SI army!!

I'm not a med peep...but I can certainly send prayers your way! When your babies are hurting...there is nothing that can make it better until they feel better!

Will they consider (or have they considered) doing a blood patch? I don't know how big the tear is, but I know that the blood patch is typically very successful when there is a spinal headache after a procedure.
Something to consider.
You know I'll be praying.

Pretty normal stuff, however if they aren't doing anything to prevent the increased pressure, resulting in headaches, and N&V, then it's time to ask.
Ask if there is a routine daily med that he can take to prevent this, or something as an emergency med, as this should slowly heal and improve. A rescue med may be helpful.
In the meantime when he feels it coming he needs to limit stimulation, and go to a cool dark room where he can meditate, and calm his brain.

HF and tn: he has had a blood patch, it hasn't seemed to help much - I think the tear is between the size where that helps much and where it can be operated.
His room (where he stays when he's not feeling too well) has virtually blackout shutters, so it is dark and the place where we live has pretty much no noise. He just went to the pharmacy to get some other meds, they gave him something for headache, which only takes the edge off - our country isn't big on heavy duty meds. They have though given him meds to help him sleep, because his sleep is off from the pain.
The next time he is feeling like going to the hospital (or the next time *I* feel like him going to the hospital) I'm going with him. I would like to better understand the whole situation straight from the horse's mouth. Not that my SI army hasn't helped....
The thing is, I don't think he is getting poor care. He is being seen at a top hospital in our country, and certainly the top in our state. Think top US hospitals. Think world class.
I just wish he would be better already!!!!

Don't misinterpret what I recommend. We know now that narcotics do not help headaches/migraines and clusters. Or head injuries.
Rather drugs like Topamax which keep blood pressure more normal and also smooth autonomic nerves can he beneficial.
This thing is a stacked injury. Not just one event or injury. That said it means it's going to take lo get than one thing alone happening.
There's an old rule of thumb that for every day you spend in the hospital it takes a week to recover from and it's pretty darn accurate. He isn't a teenager either so its going to take longer to recover.
I know as a momma you are pulling your hair out trying to get answers and help him. Definitely go with him next time so you can ask questions and get answers. Write down your questions now as you think of them so when you are there and worried about him you can ask them and not rely on your memory.
