This has been brewing for quite some time now, but I can now safely let the cat out of the bag.

I'm leaving New England and going to start a new life in central Ohio. I'm originally from the Midwest and attended school in Ohio, so I will have a network of old friends and alumni. Garage Door Man retired and will be about 30 minutes away from me. I'll be closer to the family cottage and to my family in general (although right now I'm questioning the wisdom of that for other reasons--I'll post about that later). But most importantly, I can be remote and keep my really great job. I'm so excited. My expenses will be pared significantly, which will allow me to do some things I really want to do.

My current house has sold and I have purchased another one (sight unseen--this is a strange market). Movers have been hired and I am ready to go.

Oh wow, Cat. This is just brilliant.

Good on you for taking another leap of faith that focuses on how you want to live this life of yours.

Certainly there will always be trades, but I'm certain you've thought through everything with your steady and measured approach.

Truly excited for you.

Lots of new beginnings going around these days...(doing some big ones myself). Feels great, doesn't it?

Yay Cat!

Congrats! Sounds like you all all bases covered. I love the beauty of the east coast but it's too cold for my blood. Love visiting there! Ohio is my stop-over state when I road trip to Ontario. Neat, friendly little state.

Just a warning, election season will likely be a new experience for you. Being a battleground state the ad spend in OH is just amazing.

Seeing that I watch very little television, preferring to read, I think I'll be just fine.

I went to college in Ohio as well. Lots of good schools there, both small and large.

Garage door man? That sounds like an interesting NB story.

Twelve years ago, I was doing the online dating thing and happened to strike up a conversation with a highly conversant and interesting man. We had a first date (a walk along the riverfront with tea/coffee or ice cream after) planned for the following week when I woke up one morning and found out my garage door was broken. I had an email from him waiting, and so I happened to mention it. He said he would come out and fix it. He fixed my door, I fixed dinner and we've been a couple ever since. We do a lot of things together--dog sports, auctions, antiquing, museums and music. I'm anxious to be closer to him--this has been a busy year and neither of us have had the time we thought to visit.

A mini-update to this:

Many of you know that my original new beginning involved auditioning and becoming involved with a New England professional chorus. I sang with them for close to 20 years, and it was the biggest regret of making the decision to relocate.

Last night, I auditioned for a local professional chorus and was accepted. They're not only doing one of my bucket list works this year (Mozart's Coronation Mass), but they have a scheduled tour for 2023 to Austria to sing at the Salzburg Music Festival. As GDM remarked: "Not bad--not even here a month and you nailed your first audition before you even got unpacked." I think he's teasing me about my priorities. LOL.
