Update on my nephew. He's still in ICU but improving. So much rehab to be done though. So many questions but that has to wait. He doesn't remember the accident at all but maybe later he will. Just SO happy he's alive.

As for monster Covid19, we have 474 new positives in the last 24 hours.

DragnHeart posted 6/22/2020 04:43 AM

Jeaniegirl

That's good news. Praying he continues to improve.

We had a small spike in covid cases. But still only hovering around the 200 mark.

WhatsRight posted 6/22/2020 15:36 PM

Soooooo happy to get that news.

Our county saw heavy numbers in the 1st wave and, so far, hasnít seen an increase since phase 1 opening. Iím not counting on that remaining the norm since most are carrying on with business as usual and VERY few are wearing masks.
My boys and I did take a 2 week trip - to two places where we stayed with family that had been social distancing in areas with much lower infection rates than we have. We are still home much more than normal, but have started spending a bit of time with local family too - mostly outside.

We have 474 new positive cases in the last 24 hours. Open TOO soon, people not wearing masks and ... rallies and gathering of people. Just so wrong and deadly.

Update on nephew - he got sent home this afternoon from ICU!! Two reasons why -- he has no health insurance AND it's too dangerous in the hospital because hospitals are full of Covid19 and since he had a collapsed lung and is still having some issues, the doctor said he'd be safer at home with a breathing machine.

He's on so much medication and has to go back at 5 a.m. Friday for surgery on his ankle and foot as pins have to be added for correcting the break and the crushed bones. Then next week he has to go back for facial surgery. Both of these surgeries will be out-patient. My sister and BIL got him to their house and he's still so out of it.

These are strange, hard times we are living in.

WhatsRight posted 6/24/2020 19:25 PM

Oh my goodnessÖ That is so difficult to even imagine. But I understand that it is very scary in the hospital where there are Covid cases.

Maybe he will actually feel better being at home and being cared for and comforted by his parents.

More 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Whatsright, I sure hope so.

More covid upheaval. Seems its likely DS2 will not be able to attend his brother's wedding in September. DS2 lives in a state that is frantically trying to put the demons back in the box after opening too soon. Our state has asked that anyone coming from hot spots quarantine for 2 weeks. We could cheat, there aren't any quarantine police but that would be selfish and dumb.
Even if things get worse here again, our meeting house is plenty big enough to provide 6 foot distance between people. Shop, if we have a small wedding we'll zoom it to the rest of the family.
I don't get it. Wear the freaking mask! Support a six foot distancing rule! Don't go out unless you can comply!
I feel terrible about all the families in financial distress but ignoring the reality of a deadly disease is just plain stupid.

Chili posted 7/4/2020 21:12 PM

Sigh. Anyone else having more and more people in their much-more-immediate circle getting infected?

Jeaniegirl posted 7/4/2020 23:21 PM

Chili, yes.

This things really is a dangerous pandemic and it's not being taken seriously enough in many places. IGNORING it will NOT make it go away.

Too true. It makes me so mad.

I have some extended family who posts on FB about being forced to wear masks being an impact on their freedom. It's the tone of their posts that upsets me so much - so much condescension, mocking, no consideration or sympathy whatsoever for the people who have gotten sick or died. To be honest, their lack of compassion or even consideration for other people has left me feeling afraid of them.

So far family isnt acting selfish but alot of people on my fb list are. The constant complaining bitching that masks are a violation of rights, makes them unable to breathe and is not going to help now blah blah blah has left me blocking people non stop.

Constant bad. Constant conspiracy theories. It's just so depressing to see how pathetic some humans are during a global crisis.

Ok warning Mods... Trying not to be political, but I just don't understand the extreme views of people.
"Don't wear a mask the government is trying to control you" WTH? Seriously? Is wearing a seatbelt the government trying to control you?
Is wearing a helmet when you are doing something dangerous the government trying to control you?

I agree with less government and more personal choice, but COME ON!!!!

The latest ones I have seen have to do w/ testing swabs. The reason "They" have to go so deep into your oropharnyx is so they can implant a chip.... Yup. These same people posting this shit don't realize that if "They" wanted to track you they can w/ the thing in your hand that you used to post your ignorant opinion.

It's really quite simple. If I wear a mask and you wear a mask and we both wash our hands then the chances of spreading this stupid bug are lessened.

Houston is a shitshow right now. Out or nearly out of ICU beds. Lots of young people are quite ill too. It's not just old people that get very sick. I also have lost another friend in the past few weeks as a result of Covid. An older retired nurse w/ some health issues, but it got her.

Don't a loony and mask up. Wash your hands and keep to yourself as much as possible. PLEASE!!!!

musiclovingmom posted 7/8/2020 14:53 PM

The one that really chaps me is the people feigning disabilities to get out of wearing a mask. The ADA is to help people with actual disabilities who are actually being discriminated against because of those disabilities. It doesnít exist for you to exploit so you can get your way.

DragnHeart posted 7/8/2020 16:15 PM

One person took offence to me sharing a post about back in our day and the halloween masks we all wore (if you're older you'll remmeber). I thought it was funny cause I actually had some of those costumes as a kid.

This person said that he gets claustrophobic in masks and it aggravates his copd.

Yet in another post i saw him say that he got covid and even with copd it was nothing bad, lasted about a week. Good for him eh. One of the lucky ones...sheesh!

maise posted 7/8/2020 17:45 PM

It is sadly getting closer to my inner circle. A cousin and a few others I know have it already. And Houston really is a shit show right now. I feel for my cousin, friends and others that all work with COVID patients in the med center. They are so stressed out. Stay safe out there all.

Being born and raised in Houston, I still have a lot of friends and family there. The last couple of days on Facebook, I've seen people trying to minimize what is going on there, and that it really isn't that big of a deal. I heard through the grapevine that my one remaining brother, who is 76 years old, has diabetes, heart disease and prostate cancer history, is out and about the town, doing things all over. I don't get it, and after hearing about this, don't think I can even call him, because if I hear him say this is all a big nothing pie, I will lose it with him.

maise posted 7/8/2020 19:34 PM

Number4,
Sadly I see a lot of people in my neighborhood not taking it seriously. We live in houston, many places near us have had many (multiple) confirmed cases, and for whatever reason it isnít really changing the way people are treating things. One of my cousins told me her brother in law was partying and went to events with friends and parents, etc. all sort of like normal.

Masks are required and there is a fine for not wearing them (as of July 3) but honestly my neighbors looked at us weird when we were outside with masks on. My Tia and Abuelita live next door to me and are high risk. Abuelita has lung cancer and is on chemo. We do their shopping and run their errands, check their mail and whatever else - I put signs on my aunts door for people not to come or to call instead but they donít listen. Itís stressful. I know I canít control how my aunt handles things or how people behave...itís hard to watch when the costs are so high.

Iím so sorry your brother isnt listening either 😣 I know how stressful that is when you want a loved one to be cautious bc you care.

And NOW they are pushing to reopen the schools in a 'normal' way. NOTHING is normal right now!! I feel so bad and concerned for educators and school personnel! And the little kids who are naturally germ carriers - and the illness and deaths that will come from this CRAZY idea. Our positive cases are almost doubling daily.

musiclovingmom posted 7/8/2020 21:43 PM

Jeanniegirl - Yup. Educator here. In the last month Iíve been told Iím indoctrinating kids, teaching them to hate America, teaching communism, planning to imprison kids, taking the easy way out, not even trying and a freeloader who wants to get paid to stay home and do nothing. And thatís from people who I know and love - whose children Iíve given my time and energy to when it should have gone to my family. Iím trying hard to not take it personally, but man.
