What do you mean Nekorb?

Your last post indicated a hacker made it to NB - I was just wondering what that meant/what happened?

Oh,I was referring to the recent hacker attack. I didn't think the guy made posts all the way down in NB as I hadn't seen any. I always think of NB as the least visited part of SI. I guess you have to work your way through the other categories before you arrive here. And those take years...

Ahhh. Got it. I never understand why people insist on being a menace!!

Well, the warm weather has finally arrived and I thought I'd give an update. Again, this thread is mostly for me, but I hope that it helps the occasional BS see what the other side can look like, mistakes and all.

The kids are good. My youngest got a new job and is doing well at it. She just had some oral surgery and is recovering well. My older daughter just got accepted into a trades program and will be starting her first year in a few weeks. She was hired by a company who will pay for her program. Both still live with me and will probably not leave for years. I like having them around.

I just cleaned my rooftop balcony and moved all my plants out. It is one of my favourite places to be. It is completely private with a chair, double lounger, and plants everywhere. I spend almost every nice day out here. I think I might add a hummingbird feeder this year and maybe some solar mini lights.

My buddy and I booked a campervan for a week this summer, so we plan on tooling around the south eastern part of BC together. It will be fun to just hang out together. We sometimes joke about retiring together as we get on so well. Maybe buy a 3 bedroom house in a small town and find some peace.

It's been 14 months single for me, and I can honestly say I am not the least bit interested in dating. Maybe I'm too lazy or maybe I just don't want the chaos in my life. I just like things as they are. Things are just easier this way.

So, anyway, that's my update. Hope everyone is well, at least as well as one can be given our journeys.

Congratulations to you and your kids. There is something so satisfying watching young adult children get jobs and take steps to learn new skills. I am happy for you.

My hummingbird feeder has been a real source of joy for me, I love watching these tiny, beautiful creatures come and sit peacefully for a few moments as they drink their fill. I would never have put one up, but fortunately the previous owners had left one with instructions and I have been faithfully filling it for many years. I am looking forward to the hummingbirds return any day now.

Enjoy your campervan holiday. The Pacific Northwest is so beautiful. I hope you will tell us about your trip when you get back.

You must have a different species. Ours spend more time chasing each other away like idiots than they do feeding!

That’s interesting. I’ve never seen more than one hummingbird at a time come to our feeder. They seem to flit about in the trees about 30 feet away and then come over to take a sip one at a time.

Having a nice cup of tea on my balcony, surrounded by plants. The weather is beautiful, and all I can think about is that I need more plants..

Update: broke down and bought another plant. Ok...last one.

I really enjoyed reading all your posts in this thread. You’re very likable and you have a great way of describing things and I think that will really help your new projects be successful.

I also really enjoyed seeing so many comments from so many old friends. I don’t post anymore, but I sure do think about everyone here and wonder how so many of you are doing.

So I thought I'd wrote an update. Three more weeks of work and then a summer off, which I'm dreading a little. Being aloneeans yhatvibuse my career as a social/emotional crutch, and not having a regular work schedule stresses me out. I'm close to 60 now and I honestly don't think I can retire. I even find myself walking the walls on the weekends.

Fortunately, I have good friends who staged a bit of an intervention this weekend. We had a very hot weekend with temperatures into the low to mid 30's (centigrade) and a couple of my buddies showed up at my place with their bikes wanto to go and grab a quick pint. Our city is very resort like and cycling friendly, so we picked a pub on a recreational trail which runs through the valley. Mind you, I was ill prepared and my bike was in storage, so I drove. But my point is that I pulled it out the next day and took myself out for a pint. I did it again after work today. Look at me, the introvert on a field trip.....

I've had a few more lonely days than normal recently, but I'm good at navigating those. Cigar season is here and that should get me out with my mates a bit more. My best friend and I have planned a road trip ghis summer
We are renting an rv for a week with absolutely no destination in mind. Heis on the cusp of retirement and may take a sabbatical in Japan next year which means I may visit him. They give him a house on one of the northern islands. Who knows, I may travel to an exotic land and not meet someone over there... fresh change for me.

I've been crunching retirement numbers and my Financials are tight but manageable, assuming the world doesn't burn before then. I've been playing with the idea of retirement in Europe. I qualify for EU citizenship but I haven't applied yet. The cost of living is very attractive compared to here. I would have 2-3k of disposable income a month rather than squeak by here. It sounds attractive, plus I'm more attuned to the pace of life there.
