Thinking about everyone in the path of this storm. Stay safe!!!

My parents are luckily at their home here in the midwest, and had intially planned to go back last week, but delayed due to great grandson coming to visit. So they leave Sunday, they are in the path of a direct hit.

Have a couple other friends that live in or near Ft Myers beach, one is staying, and they are on the water, the other is inland, so no need to leave. Should be an interesting 48 hours.

I spent Sally in a 5th wheel camper, and it was a direct hit where we were, it was an amazing, scary, experience. Not ever going to do that again.

We have relatives in the Tampa area. They evacuated and are safe. I hope they have a home to return to.

We were supposed to fly to Tampa tomorrow for my granddaughter's 1st birthday. Had to postpone. My son/family live Bradenton and they were bracing for a full impact but the hurricane is making landfall a bit further south.

We lived through Harvey, it was terrifying.

I pray everyone is safe, and the problems in the aftermath are fixed quickly.

I am part of a FB page for the Orlando area, and many residents are reporting that they've seen utility trucks throughout that region arriving the past couple of days to assist with the cleanup.

I have a good friend that really *should* have evacuated. She is staying and now is regretful of that decision (and the storm hasn't even arrived yet). They are in Cape Coral.

My mom lives near St Augustine and thought it would be a wonderful adventure to ride out hurricane Matthew shortly after she moved there.

Luckily we convinced her H to drag her kicking and screaming and get up to Georgia. No major damage aside from a tree or two falling on the house .

Anyway, I'm sorry for all you worrying about loved ones not evacuating in the path. I hope it all is not as bad as it's feared to be and quickly cleaned up and sorted out.

I'm in the Tampa area just east. We're hunkering down. It's forecast to pass about an hour to our east, hopefully as a Category 1.

I know there are other SI peeps in the area. Thinking of you all and sending prayers. 🙏🙏

Sending out strength and mojo for everyone affected. I really hope that most have already evacuated - as for the rest, it's 'just' property. Worthless if you're not alive and well.

My wife's mom and her ex's mom (both of spawns grandparents) are north of Clearwater. Both are 1.5 miles off the gulf and 30 up.. Luckily for them it hooked east earlier than they were forecasting early yesterday. My wife was actually supposed to fly to TPA tomorrow for her HS reunion. It looks bleak for Port Charlotte, Fort Meyers, Cape Coral, Naples and Punta Gurda as the storm surge coming off the south side of the hurricane ran directly up their shores as it came ashore.

We visited Crystal Beach (Tampa) not too long ago. We found a mom and pop pizza place just off the beach. My W and I visited with the owner and his W while waiting for our order. Such a nice couple, prayers for everyone affected.

This thing was a monster, my parents home, and car, and boat are a total loss. All the homes in their development a loss.
One of their older widowed friends refused to leave, her son who lives inland came to stay w/ her, and no one has heard from them.
They are saying 100s of lives lost in the Ft Myers Beach area. Part of the bridge/causeway over from Ft Myers beach to Sanibel is gone. GONE. The force of wind, water and debris to do that is pretty damned strong. All new bridges/causeways/buildings in the area are built to Cat 5 standards.

Going to be a long hard day for that area. Pray for safety, and minimal injuries.

I'm glad your parents are safe Tush. Prayers that their friend is okay.

I heard from my family in Cape Coral, they are safe. This is devastating! Sending prayers and juju.

Family north of tampa weathered the storm with just rain and high winds. Wife's mom is going to be devastated about Sanibel. That's been their go to vacation spot for decades.

@PricklePatch - I have a friend who just moved to Cape Coral last October from the Midwest. They live on a canal... and chose to stay. She said on Facebook they chose the house because it was built to withstand a major hurricane. But the pictures are staggering from Cape Coral. I mean, your house might not move from its foundation, but water levels will not protect you from flooding, right?

@Catwoman - sounds like the same friend. Decided not to leave. Am guessing they are regretting that decision.

My peeps moved to a canal in Cape Coral. The original owners paid to have the property elevation raised 3 feet more then the rest of the lots. It did not require flood insurance. I suggested they leave. They decided not to go, thinking we went through hurricane sandy.

Oh my I have a friends in Cape Coral that did the same thing. He was posting hourly updates, but haven't heard from them since 11am yesterday. Hoping they are fine, and it's just the cell towers being down that they haven't posted.
He is quite the boyscout so I'm sure they have a generator and so forth. So if their home survived they will be ok.

I have no words, but hope that I can be there for friends and community.

Ironically I have no current residence there due to Covid lockdowns and the reasons we are all in this group but don't talk about in this thread.

"My" neighborhood is under water. Had things worked out a couple months ago I would have been under water literally in my dream house. My heart breaks for my home.

I offered friends a place to ride this out in the Midwest...nothing fancy but very pet friendly (except for large snakes and bearded dragons, they scare me really badly but I digress).

I feel helpless to do more than offer friends a place to be if they need it (such as that place is here in the Midwest) but hope to connect with a charity I volunteered with in my neighborhood and see what else I can do.

We fared ok. The onset was pretty scary. Woke up to lots of yard debris and fallen trees around. Lost power late Wednesday and still hasn't returned. But the folks in Fort Myers...heartbreaking. Another very long recovery ahead just like after Hurricane Charley.
