Absolutely breathtaking!

I woke up today with a fever. Since I’m a school employee during corona, that means that in addition to taking some time off work, I also had the privilege of having testing done. They swabbed me for strep and flu and did a standard and rapid Covid test. That means a throat swab and 4 up the nose (the rapid Covid is both nostrils). I got negative results on the strep, flu and rapid Covid. Just have to wait for the standard Covid to come back and be confirmed negative. Still don’t know why I’m running a fever.

Oh, I’m so VERY glad you have a bunch of negatives so far.

Negative test today!

It was good news that I really needed, because this month is kicking my ass. Two weeks ago, my dad died suddenly and unexpectedly. Two days later, my mom went into the hospital, and she's still there, with a growing list of problematic long term diagnoses. I had to put grief on hold to figure out how to get my father buried out of state during a quarantine. My BH, who is in the middle of a stressful job change, had to be completely responsible for running the house, including remote learning for two teenagers with cognitive conditions that make it hard for them to focus (and who therefore, despite high IQs, are failing almost every subject). Oh, and did I mention it's antiversary month?

I'm so relieved that I didn't have to add Covid into the mix.

So glad you both were negative.

I hope they figure out why you have a fever musiclovingmom. My husband had a very high fever this week and was also negative for covid.

zebra - Who knows about why I have a fever. It wasn’t super high - 100.6° - but the official “you can’t be on campus” temp is 100°. I took some Tylenol when I finally got home from testing (that took almost two hours) and with that, my fever finally broke a couple of hours ago. Just had my H check one more time and it hasn’t come back up yet. Tucking myself into bed now. I will still work remotely tomorrow morning unless I wake up feeling much worse than I do now.

I guess I am lucky to be here this morning, writing about yesterday.

I've had a busy few days with a loved one in the hospital and finally got him home Wednesday night. I also had a court appearance on Wednesday that required a lot of waiting around at the court house. I didn't feel well at all.

Yesterday morning I felt like I 'couldn't get any air' and had shortness of breath. I was also very sick to my stomach. Around 11 a.m. I started to the bathroom and felt myself about to pass out. I yelled for my daughter, who just happened to be here, thank goodness. I remember starting to fall. She heard me. The rest of what happened, she had to tell me about. She said I was unresponsive and my eyes were wide open, not blinking. It scared her so much and she was on the phone with 911 and trying to get me to respond. She said it seemed like an eternity but was only a couple of minutes that I was not responding, wasn't breathing and she could find no pulse. 911 told her to start CPR, which she did. The medics and ambulance arrived to take me to the ER. My blood pressure was very, very low. At one point they turned on the siren for the ambulance because the medic said BP was dropping again. My normal BP is always around 110/60 so I told them that. They had started an IV in the ambulance and he said BP should have started coming up faster as it was 62/43. I said my god, that is almost dead.

After getting to hospital the vein the IV was in collapsed and they had a hard time finding another vein. BP had come up some, around 69/55. I was taken for a catscan with DYE, had two EKG's and a lung xray. After about 5 hours the BP started to come back up.

Blood work showed white count was very high. Tests showed I have an infection in my colon, a kidney infection and was severely dehydrated. I was kept until 10 pm and finally sent home. They don't want to keep people. I was alone as no one allowed in. My sister and daughter were in the parking lot. A very sick covid patient was two doors down from me in ER, the room sealed off with plastic. I got RX for infections.

Today I am feeling normal after eating and drinking lots of water.

That was a very scary experience. I feel like my daughter saved my life. What would have happened had she not been there? Would I have woke up? I just don't know. My knee is really messed up from the fall when I passed out. I've always enjoyed great health so that is a wake up call for me.

OMG...how scary! When you started to describe feeling light-headed and nauseous, the first thing I thought of was dehydration, but wow, you have two infections going on at the same time?

I know from hearing other similar stories of what feeling dehydrated can feel like and that you can actually pass out, so I try to be as diligent as possible about drinking fluids. My brother passed out once from dehydration and was hospitalized for three days until they could figure it out. He thought he'd always been getting enough fluids because he drank iced tea all day long; only iced tea, not any water, juice, etc. He didn't realize caffeine is a diuretic and made it worse. I guess I'm lucky that caffeine really doesn't agree with me, so I don't have to worry about that. I also don't want to have to worry about kidney stones.

I'm sure you must have been terrified, as well as your family. It's amazing what some fluids can do to help you feel better more quickly.

After all of that to be sent home. Did your heart actually stop or was just such a low heart rate she couksbt find a pulse?

I don't know if my heart stopped so they've suggested I do a follow up with a cardio doc. She said my eyes were wide open, I was totally limp and non-responsive. I came to when she was doing CPR. She said the fact she couldn't get me to respond and my eyes wide open is something she won't forget. I was so dehydrated I couldn't give a urine sample until the second IV bag was almost gone. YES more water for me. Lesson learned.

Wow Jeanniegirl, I'm glad DD was right there but you must have frightened her so much. And she did exactly what was needed to help you. I'm sure she was really worried about you and what could be wrong.

Glad you got good care and some medications to help. I'm not a medical person but sounds like they were thorough? It would be a worry to me to be someplace where you know they are treating the virus, even with good practices.

Hope the meds get you feeling well. Did you mention your knee to the doc? Maybe R-I-C-E would be in order.

I have always been in good health, but this makes me think about the fact that I am alone the vast majority of time. Guess I need to be more aware of drinking water and taking care of myself.

TheBigHurt, I am so thankful my daughter happened to be here. As a school administrator, she's always having to take safety courses and that saved my life. She really thought I had a massive heart attack or stroke and she was so terrified. But she did what she had to do. Had I been alone, I don't think I would be here due to how low my blood pressure was. I sure couldn't help myself.

I've never liked water but I'm drinking a lot now. I'm also looking at alternate types to stay hydrated. The funny thing is, I'm out in the country and have a deep water well and I have relatives who come here to fill up water jugs because they say my water is wonderful. So I have to make sure I drink lots of it.

I'm not great at drinking straight water either, even with a tap water filter on our faucet. I struggle.

But, I found I get so much more liquids down me when I drink either Hint, or Spindrift.

Hint is flavored water in a ton of different flavors. It's only flavored with fruit (well, their is cucumber flavor) essence... no sugar, no sugar substitutes, etc. And no carbonation. If you're a member at Costco, they sell it there now. Otherwise, Target has the best price usually.

Spindrift is what I consider a better version of La Croix. It just feels like it isn't as carbonated as La Croix, and I have to be careful with carbonation. I suspect it also has more fruit flavor than La Croix. It also doesn't have sugar or any sugar substitutes. You can also get Spindrift at Costco.

My daughter basically got addicted to Spindrift, and decided she was going through so much of it (and didn't like the carbon footprint she was creating), that she bought a Soda Stream, and makes her own version at home - they have several fruit trees, so she can make it with those in season. When we're at her house, she will make me a drink with her Soda Stream, and it's good.

This got me thinking that we pretty much only drink water here.

Wh and I also will have coffee and a pepsi and occasionally a beer but water is the main thing. I have two britta jugs. Also bought the tap one but it doesnt fit my tap...go figure.

That's all the kids drink as well. Chocolate milk is a treat, regular milk is ok. Soda very rarely.

No juice boxes at all. I will pickup Gatorade for them sometimes.

Cant say we arent hydrated. And with the situation you found yourself in I'm glad. That's really scary.

Also your daughter did great!. Applying first aide to a family member is much harder than a stranger. I was on the first responce team at university. Like campus EMS. We took care of people until the medics got there. Thanks to that training I was able to manage a car crash scene without missing a beat. But the moment my grandmother passed out and smacked her face off her dresser the most I could do was call for help from my parents. My mother told me to go sit down. Apparently I had gone totally white and she thought I was going to drop lol.

So scary Jeanie! I’m So glad your daughter was there. And also glad it isn’t something far worse. I’ve started carrying a cup with a straw to work since drinking while wearing a mask is much more difficult. I actually drink more water now than I did. Go figure.
