DH, I'm also in Ontario. And I'm also frustrated at how people are pushing back at restrictions that are meant to keep our entire economy from shutting down.

I haven't kept up with the news or case counts this weekend. Been to busy cleaning and redoing the bedroom to house a large tank. Finally everything is set up and I'm currently being stared at by a very angry reptile while watching The DaVinci Code. 馃ぃ

Last i checked the numbers in the ICU had jumped up, there was both a push to go back to in person learning next week and a push to extend online longer. Hopefully we will get news before Friday.

Apparently there was a "leak" from the premieres office that school is back in person on the 17th and the news ran with it.

Nothing OFFICIAL yet. Heard there will be a news conference tomorrow. Parents on my community page are upset that the news reported something not official, rumors have made it to the kids, some are for going back, others want to know how the schools have been made safe in just two weeks...

I know they said more hepa filters were being installed and N95 masks for all teachers.

I will wait until i hear from the premier himself or minister of education before i plan for next week.

Drinking urine isnt for me. Sorry.

I wanted to make a comparison with regards to vaccine issues but i think it will only offend people ans i dont want to do that.

Did he confirm that today or was that from his past news conference when he switched from Jan 5th start to Jan 17th start?

The only thing we need to do is pick up some of their lunch snacks which i dont do until Friday anyway so its no big deal.

I have to buy a new winter coat for DS since his went "missing " that last week before Christmas... rolleyes mad

I am making it crystal clear to his teacher and the principal that his belongings stay with him at his desk from Now on. Any more of his stuff goes missing from the hall racks and ill be bringing in the police.

I don't see how they're going to stay open.

Although of course, kids now get a totally different set of rules regarding isolation.

I can't imagine this isn't going to rip right through classrooms at this point. Especially since the government now won't even notify you if the kid sitting next to yours is out with covid. Not that they'll know anyway since the kid will probably be allowed back after ONE day so spew little virus droplets everywhere.

I missed the noon conference so i will have to double check the sites again. Our school board sent out a notice that once they get the directives from the mister of education they would send it out to all the parents. I do recall hearing something about new protocols. Thats going to suck.

My Daughters covid test is positive. She has a bad headache and very exhausted. I'm thinking its Omicron and she will be okay. Her school is having to shut down for a week as over half of the teachers and several students are positive. Too little too late.

Our Governor is a very wealthy man. His kids have always been in either private schools or home-schooled with tutors. He has NO CLUE what Public Schools are going through.

Im sorry about your daughter. I pray shes ok.

I watched a video of one of the doctors i follow. He has a Vax and Chill attitude with omicron. With the data showing its less dangerous, even with its very high infectious rate he said the chances of everyone getting it eventually is high.

He goes on to say that with vaccination the chances of it making you need extended hospital stay is low. So for now opening schools and the economy isnt bad.

What i wonder about is the sudden high numbers being admitted to our ICU. 80 admitted today here. I dont know the data about who was admitted, vaxxed, unvaxxed, old, younger, comorbilities etc.

I am hoping thr will change the time between doses for my younger three. They have had their first vaccine dose.

Our average new cases per day is 6,947 per day since last Friday. 33 Children were admitted to Pediatric ICU yesterday.

My daughter is fully vaccinated, of course -- and has the booster. So I think she will be okay. It's the younger, unvaccinated children she is worried about. She thinks their older siblings are bringing the virus home from school to them.

Hmmm. See thats where reporting the actual numbers woukd be helpful here. Sure daily case counts (sorry disnt look it up for today) we get but who is being admitted to ICU, No.

If kids either in the 5-11 or under are being admitted more now that would be concerning for me as a parent with three kids with just one dose of vaccine. I would be even more content with remote learning than in person.

If they arent the ones making up the sudden ICU increase i would feel better about in person.

But we dont get that information. Perhaps ages are to personal?

I personally think that the provincial government don't want to give us the information because they just want this to go away.

People are worried about case counts? Well, we'll stop testing. Schools are getting shut down because of cohorts being isolated? No more testing in schools. We'll just shrug and go from there.

I don't know if I'll be sending my (double vaxxed) son back to school yet regardless of whether they actually open here or not. He won't have access to remote learning though since he's in the in-person stream.

Im honestly surprised no one making the decisions hasnt had a nervous breakdown already.

Hell im just a parent of 4 and im already taking up day drinking to cope.

Not every day, mostly weekends but ive had a shot now to calm my nerves.

Im interested in What the new protocols will be come Monday when kids are supposed to return to school.

How accurate are the rapid antigen tests?

One of the new protocols for Mondays return to school is symptomatic students will require 2 rapid antigen tests (that will be provided) taken 24 hours apart with a negative result for the student to return to class.

I need more clarification about this from the school. Will i need to photograph the test and send it to the school to prove its negative?

Also they said that screening will be stricter and be also be conducted at the school.

The ones we get? If they take a good sample, which is harder with a wiggly kid (they recommend swabbing throat followed by nose to get higher accuracy), it's about 65%.

My son and I agreed he is not going back next week. We'll reevaluate at that point.

How they can even decide no one gets information until 30% of the school is out sick boggles my mind. I'm so beyond depressed at this point it's a struggle to get out of bed.

I read an article today about a woman who had been suffering from long covid for 18 months and she wound up committing suicide because she was suffering symptoms that prevented her from sleeping... at all. And then I think they're just kind of shrugging and throwing us to the wolves. If people still get long covid from omicron (and you can get it even from mild/asymptomatic cases), I think we're all screwed.

I asked one of my twins if he was happy about going back to school next week. He said no. Online is better mom. My 13 yr old is happy about it, other than having to get up super early again.

It's scary because i havent heard any data on that yet. Or havent searched in the right places.

I have heard horror stories about long covid and i dread that.

33 Children were admitted to Pediatric ICU yesterday.

Omnicron might be milder for adults, but it's clear that toddlers are going symptomatic and testing positive at a higher rate. Wife's work has been in person since the summer of 2020. Her building is strictly 18 months to 3 years and until last Friday they've been unscathed. One positive cases in one room identified by parent testing positive, and another one in the same room with a positive in the household waiting on a test. Wife had a mom from her room have a scratchy throat Tuesday that didn't think anything about it until her nose wouldn't stop running Wednesday notified. She tested positive and notified and when her child woke up from nap in the afternoon with a fever and has had a positive result returned this week. Fun. Good news is the kid was one of the few that masked (not required for all kids in that age group per cdc) and wife was at least trying to wear n95 masks last week after I pointed out they gave significant higher protection than cloth ones.

I am not liking those numbers. Whats the risk factor of severe infection with one vaccine dose 14 days after getting it?

My three younger kids are in that situation. My oldest has two shots.
