On July 29, 2010, I lost my awesome GSD boy; he was 13. We had to have him euthanized because one day, he was unable to get up and had lost all of his bodily functions due to degenerative myelopothy. He had been slowly regressing over a couple years, but that one day, I saw in his eyes that he was ready. I wasn't - probably never would have been.
I swore on everything that the pain of losing him was so great that I would never be a dog mamma again.
The years passed - I had one grandchild when we lost our furboy in 2010; four more grandkids came with the last one being born in 2016. They took up all my time and energy (in a good way) and during the past 10 years I was happy and never really thought much of getting another dog. Then, my DD who does not live with us got an English Lab puppy, who is 2 now, and he has been so great!
Then late October 2019, shortly after my DD, her DH, 2 of my grandkids and their GSD girl moved in with us, our grandfurbaby crossed rainbow bridge when a sudden illness took her out at age 10.5. Her blood was no longer clotting. Their heartbreak once again sealed the deal that I wasn't going to get another dog.
Then COVID hit. I started looking at websites at GSDs and following doggos on IG thinking that would take care of my "dog fix."
I resigned myself that I would be happy loving my grandfurbaby and other doggos from afar. Little did I know that DH was paying very close attention.
On Christmas Day, my DH gave me a present. A box with a stuffed GSD and a real leash in it. Inside was a card with a beautiful note congratulating me on being the "mother" of a solid black GSD puppy, who would be born in January and would be mine in mid-March! There was also a picture of the mother and father of the puppies in the box.
How could I say no?
In 4 more weeks I'll be a dog mamma again - I'll be honest, I'm a little nervous - GSDs are a lot of work, but I have plenty of help and we will have this little girl or guy professionally trained and he or she will serve not only a family pet, but as a service dog to help me when I have anxiety attacks.
Squeeee!

Woot woot woot!
I am so thrilled for you. My NB puppy was (as they always are) a ton of work but just the best thing ever. I know I don't even have to try and explain.
So terribly exciting. Puppy paws and puppy belly and puppy breath. Ahhhh. Pure bliss. And something joyous to look forward to. All of us have been needing that just a little, huh?
Pictures shall be required.
2012 pretty much sucked.

Just remember that they don't sleep through the night for just a short time.
Out Chocolate Lab boy was tough to get over that hump but we did by 4.5 months.
He is currently rolling and streaking through the yard full of snow all with a monkey in his mouth.
My next dog is going to be service trained for mobility as I get older and my RA progresses I know it will be beneficial.

Congrats!!
I have an 11 week old black lab puppy RIGHT now and a shepherd/Newfie (8 years old) and Newfie (7 years old).
My new puppy is so worth my sleepless nights, she is now sleeping from about 10 to 4:00am and all the work.
Enjoy. I wouldn't trade her for the world!

The image must already be hosted (uploaded) online. What happens when you click the image tab to the left if the reply box is that its sharing the link to the image.
So if i want to share a photo i have taken i first upload it to my Facebook in a post under the Only Me option. Then i click on that image and open it in a new browser window. In the top right corner are three dots, click on that then select share. I "copy to clipboard" then come here, open a reply, click in the Image tab and paste the link into it.
Hopefully that helps lol.

Definitely prepared for that "infant" sleepless night period. My DH gets up at 1:30 AM for work, and I get up at 5:00 AM so that's a perfect "shift" to take puppy out at night for potty breaks.
My oldest DD has a yellow English Lab (he just turned 2) - he was a wild child in his first year, but has really calmed down (though he still does zoomies as much as possible, lol). He is also a "bring you a toy" Lab - I think it helps them from going completely bonkers cause they're so happy to see us!

Northern - I am a Lab momma. They are q great breed but like your Newfies they are meant to work so not enough stimulation or exercise can lead to bad behavior.
Lala- gorgeous baby!!!! I bet you are counting the days until the baby arrives.

This is SO true! We would wear our furbabies out and they were very well behaved.

Actually, we just found out last night that we will be counting less days...we're getting our pup on March 5! The breeder says he (yes, it's a BOY!) will be ready (he'll be just shy of 7 weeks old). I'm so, so happy and excited!

Oooh that young. Most breeders recommend 8 weeks with mom and siblings for basic manners.
Hope you are ready to stop the shark bites.

I totally agree about the 8 weeks thing and honestly, I'm not sure why the breeder is releasing them so soon, but it is what it is. The vet said he will be fine since I work from home and don't have to leave him for long periods. We are also hiring a professional trainer to come to our home to train him about a week after puppy has had a chance to get acclimated. This guy is awesome - he trained dogs in Afghanistan during the war and he just retired from the police force and is taking up dog training as his new career.
Shark bites - OMG, yes, I remember those from my DD's Lab - he was pretty bad for awhile, took about 9 months to break that nasty habit.
