Dog Training Question - Board and Train
Hi,
Have any of you sent your dog to a board and train program? If so, how did it go - did it help?
I have a 16-month-old neutered German Shepherd who is going to a 14-day program in early June. He's doing great on basic obedience and can do some really cool tricks, but he has issues with impulse control and when he gets amped up he tunes us right the f out. I also believe he has anxiety that is causing some of his unwanted behavior (shredding things, lunging at cars, certain noises set him off)...
Please share your experiences - good and bad.
Thanks!

Omylanta That Toenail Ad!
I know y'all can't make certain ads go away, but my god, the one with the nasty, yellow, broken toenail - the one positive thing I can say is it made me want to skip my snack!

I know it's probably noted here somewhere, but I can't find it.
What does the lightbulb next to posts stand for?

Covid Loss of Smell and Taste
Hi SI peeps,
So the VID got me last week. I was fully vaccinated late May (Moderna). Got it from the grandkids. Negative rapid test followed by a positive PCR two days later.
I was surprised when I got the call that it was positive - I felt great. Until 2 days after the call. Stale headache, low-grade fever, super tired. No trouble breathing, sat levels perfect.
Then Sunday, goodbye taste and smell. JUST. LIKE. THAT. GONE. I cannot smell ANYTHING - not even the dog poo I pick up!
I can "taste" sweet, salty, sour, spicy, but no flavor. It's really hard to explain.
It sucks and TBH, I'm scared and a little depressed. This is awful. I know it could be worse, but of course I HAD to look up how long it takes to get your sense of taste and smell back and I read everything from a couple weeks, to a month, to months, to never, and then when it does come back, everything smells awful.
For those of you who have had COVID and "took leave of your senses"
- what was the outcome? Honest answers even if not good, please and thank you.

People Returning Pandemic Pets
I was just watching the news - animal shelters that were empty during the pandemic are now full. Not because of new animals entering, but because people who got animals during the pandemic are returning them because their lives are getting back to "normal" and they can't take care of them anymore.
Are people that fucking stupid? Did they think the pandemic would last forever? Do they think these precious babies are stuffed animals that they can just give away/toss aside when things get real?
We got a puppy in March. Before I brought him home, I already looked into doggie daycare/dog walker options because I knew at some point I would return to the office. That time has come (3 days a week) and he's set up for daycare and he really loves it. Is it cheap? No. But I would not have gotten the dog if I did not research the cost of properly owning one.
This does NOT include foster animals - foster families are awesome! That's what these people should have done if they were not going to make these poor animals a true part of their family. Now they sit in shelters not knowing what they did to deserve that.

Yay! Grandkid Pix!
Christmas 2018.
So funny - The Fab Five just did not want to sit still for five seconds and take a Norman Rockwell type portrait.
So here are the ones that we got - all adorable - gotta love them. And given that they are five children ages 9 to 2, and they had been opening a crap-ton of gifts (first from Santa, then from us), AND they ate sugar...it could have been much worse...lol!
Enjoy!
Finally - 2 yo DGD decided she was DONE. And 4yo DGD looking at her like WTH!

My Grandson - Time Flies Too Fast
Many SI "old timers" have "known" my DGS since the day he was born on June 25, 2009. He's the first of five awesome grandchildren (aka - "The Fab Five") and the only boy. I can't believe he's going to be nine! From roly poly baby with beautiful eyes and lashes to die for to handsome young man with beautiful eyes and lashes to die for...and his personality is just as beautiful...and I'm not just saying that because he's my DGS.

The Private Lives of the Tudors
Has anyone read it?
I'm about 25% through it and love it! One thing is certain - kings, queens, and all the court were not afforded much privacy at all. Especially kings and queens as they were the property of the people and were expected to produce heirs. People looked on as newlywed royalty consummated their marriages -- this was normal and expected!
It was also expected that monarchs hid signs of aging as perception was reality. Queen Elizabeth I put on gobs of white foundation, which ended up containing extremely high levels of lead.
Lots of really awesome detail about clothing, food, shelter, customs, etc., etc...
If you're not a Tudor-era enthusiast, don't buy it. It's definitely for us who love all things Tudor.

Funny Story...Gotta Love Two Year Olds
Preface: My 2.5 year-old DGD is learning about "stranger danger" in daycare and is learning what to say and do should a stranger approach her.
DD talking to DGD about Halloween etiquette:
DD: DGD, what do you say when they answer the door?
DGD: Trick or Treat!
DD: What do you say after they put candy in your bag?
DGD: I don't WANT your candy!
Oops...a slight mixup there
. No worries, she had the whole "trick-or-treat/thank you" down pat on Halloween night!
