Solo female travel- I did it!!

HappyTree posted 5/17/2019 09:29 AM

I just wanted to share my experience with you guys. I just came back from traveling Costa Rica, by myself!! I went with only a child sized backpack and spent the week in hostels. While one location I went to was fairly touristy, one place was not so much. This is a country that considers hot showers, air conditioning, and window screens a luxury. It was completely amazing. I made so many friends so I really was not alone, I was at beach parties with the locals, I was hiking rain forests and chilling out at the beach. I enjoyed the local food. I did what I wanted when I wanted. I didn't know the language but I figured it out and was able to meet my needs. On my last full day I treated myself to zip lining and spending a few hours at a swanky resort pool where very attractive men were buying me shots at the pool bar.

2.5 years ago my ex told me that I was to dependent on him and could never be an independent person. I thought that was a load of crap. Now who is more independent? I just did something amazing that most people would never be able to do. Something he absolutely would never do.

And I can't wait until I get to travel again. I'm so much closer to who I am as a person and not who my ex said I was.

I am a low income, single mom who was emotionally and sexually abused and bullied for years. And I just did my first international trip solo. AMAZING!

I don' know you and I'm bursting from proud like a mother! I'm so happy for you. Even as a world traveler of 35 years myself (sometimes solo, mostly with my partner) I know, how scary things can be if you travel alone. The confidence you will get from this will help you so much in your day to day life.

Yess yess yess! (Proud and dancing happy circles fro you!)

Love this. This is fantastic . congratulations.

A solo trip is on my bucket list. Mine is Prince Edward Island. A little cottage by the water/bike path/hiking.

Proud of you so proud. You did it! You are who you thought you are, not who someone else tried to tell you.

I did a ton of this myself and it is SO healing in so many ways. I really get all the things might be feeling right about now. So empowering. So wonderful to make memories just for you to treasure forever.

And hopefully your spirit got some much-needed rejuvenation as well. Just. Excellent.

Go HappyTree!

I took that same solo trip to Costa Rica in January of this yr. That place is awesome. Happy for you that you got to experience Tico Time as they say it down there.

SO amazing- like everyone, I am thrilled for you!

Some of my best memories are from traveling alone.

Thatís great for you to do something like this. After my separation I have travelled to many places solo spending most nights in hostels, including Costa Rica.. It was truly life changing and all my new memories that can never be altered. Keep going and travel as often as you can! Be careful though, it is addictive.
