Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do we sign up to participate?
A: Please use the online sign-up sign-up form if you wish to participate.

Q: But what if I want to remain anonymous?
A: Everyone will remain anonymous. Only MangledHeart, WalkingOnEggshelz and HoldingTogether will see the names on the mailing labels. All other participants will only see your username or however you decide to sign your Christmas cards.

Q: How do we handle postage?
A: A list of participants will be posted after the October 31st sign-up deadline which will include the cost of the postage to apply to each participants' envelope. Postage rates are based on USPS first class standard size envelopes for the current rate.

Q: Who applies the postage to the envelopes?
A: All members are required to add their own postage on the envelopes for each recipient.

Q: What about International members sending cards to the United States?
A: Please enclose the correct amount of USD currency you will need for postage in your package and we will purchase the postage on your behalf and apply them to your cards. the Elves will apply them to your cards during their toy making breaks.

Q: What is the record amount of envelopes sent/received?
A: Our record was 2013 with a staggering 5082 cards!!!

Q: What is the "Real Name" used for on the Christmas Card Exchange form?
A: It's up to you how you want your envelopes labeled. Just specify the name as you would like your postmaster to see it when they deliver your cards. Some members use their real name, some only use their first names and some only use their SI name. It's entirely up to you.

Q: If our spouses/partners are also members here, do they need to sign up as well?
A: No. Only one member needs to sign up on behalf of all family participants. Just make sure to include their username and/or real name on the Christmas Card Exchange form.

Unfortunately due to COVID-19 there will not be a gathering of Elves at Santaís workshop this year. Mr. & Mrs. Claus will have one heck of a job ahead of them so please letís go easy on the glitter this year. JUST KIDDING!!!

My favoritist SI tradition ever. I've been looking for this post.

(And my offer to be an elven from over here still stands if there's anything I can do to help the Clauses with the process. Easy on the glitter you say? *snort*)

WalkinOnEggshelz posted 9/10/2020 19:46 PM

HT and I absolutely love this tradition. Itís the Card Exchange that prompted us to meet SI members IRL for the first time and share in the tradition of becoming an elf.

We walked into MH and DSís home strangers and left with so many friends. Friends I will very much miss this season.

Despite the shortage of elves this year, I do hope that many will join in this season. 2020 could use a dose of cheer (aka glitter)!

I wish i was closer because I'd be an elf!!!

Count me in! This has become my favorite holiday tradition.

The only thing I bought from the AC Moore near me closing was lots and lots of glitter!

thebighurt posted 9/15/2020 21:51 PM

I really want to sign up right now, but right now I do not know for sure where I will be to do this. Definitely hope to know for sure by the end of October, but don't have a crystal ball to see what may happen with the pandemic, flu, weather, my health, or any other eventually.

If I sign up now with my info that is already there from previous years, could I change the address if I won't be there when cards get sorted and posted? Is there a drop-dead date for printing my labels?

WhatsRight posted 9/16/2020 16:29 PM

Last year I signed up, but due to a shit storm of ďlifeĒ, I never sent my cards in.

But I did receive cardsÖ Plenty of them! I think that was an oversight, because I know if you donít send your cards in, you donít receive cards.

Can I just take this opportunity to thank everybody that sent me a card!

I havenít opened any of the cards because I did not feel worthyÖ Because I didnít send mine.

But you can bet your ass Iíll be sending them this year!

I definitely don't want to sign up unless I am sure I can participate fully. I want to receive cards (have to be where they are addressed ) but only extreme circumstances would keep me from sending them to my SI friends. I think that might disappoint me as much as not getting them from all of you. Just think how much glitter I would miss out on!

PricklePatch posted 9/17/2020 01:58 AM

It is something we as a family look forward to. My daughter will be thrilled when I tell her tomorrow. We just moved I have all this scrapbook paper maybe I will make them this year!

EllieKMAS posted 9/17/2020 16:37 PM

Oh lordy what am I gonna do for them this year??

PS I cannot BELIEVE it is time to sign up for this again already...

BraveSirRobin posted 9/28/2020 23:01 PM

For those who are new, or didn't read the Christmas card thread last year, Muggle's post was both hysterically funny and full of useful information for planning your cards:

LosferWords posted 10/1/2020 00:41 AM

I'm signed up. I blame Chili.

DragnHeart posted 10/1/2020 03:48 AM

Is it sad or being prepared that my container of glitter has been out on the kitchen counter beside the sink off to the left by the radio all year?

Chili posted 10/1/2020 19:44 PM

Oh lordy what am I gonna do for them this year??

That's half the fun - cipherin' and scheming if you get in the mood.

Muggle's post

Was absolutely hysterical.

I havenít opened any of the cards because I did not feel worthyÖ Because I didnít send mine.

You know girl - sometimes you make up the silliest rules for yourself in your own head. This is so crazy. So what if you weren't able to get yours out? You seriously need to open those cards - we all sent them in the spirit of bringing a smile to someone else's face, including yours. Actually now I'm kind of offended that you rejected my gift. Why don't you take that pile sometime soon, have yourself a WR moment and call it Happy October?

I blame Chili.

Hey now. I'll gladly take the blame for you participating in such a joyous event. (Which we all might find extra useful this year I'm sure). You *know* you loved it as a newbie last year, didn't you?

(P.S. - kindly direct any other kind of blame towards Tred).
