A couple of weeks ago, I found a 5K run. I contemplated signing up, then finally I did.
I did it this morning!! I ran my first 5k marathon in 30.27 minutes. I am so damn proud of myself! I finished 13th out of 150 women, 2nd out of 21 women in my age group, 57th out 240 racers!!!!!!! I didn't think I would place, so I left before the race officially ended and missed my award. I called them to see what happens, and they said I can come by tomorrow to get it. I plan on wearing my medal all day tomorrow at school. My students said they wanted to see it. 😁😁
It felt amazing! I had a huge smile on my face when I started and huge smile when I crossed the finish line. I've been running that distance on the streets by my home, but they're hilly so it usually takes me almost 40 minutes to run them. I really wanted to run today's race in 30 minutes. Once I came around the last corner, saw the finish line and the time I was at, I started running faster. My dad was at the finish line recording my accomplishment. I've already started looking up future races because I definitely want to run more of them.

Maybe today can be a good day, and if today can be a good day, then maybe tomorrow can be too.

Yaayyy!!!
Awesome result- And close to your goal!
Joys of age groups- I finished a school fun run at my son’s school a couple years ago, and just like you, placed by virtue of age group without knowing.
My buddy texted me and said “Hurry back! You PLACED!” Never got that medal but got a good story- Wear yours proudly!

Great work LD! Under a 10 min mile, that's wonderful! Training on hills is hard.
I wonder if you find putting in the hard work and training has any kind of metaphor for the other work you are doing? I find all kinds of parallels with sports and training and competitions that help me keep going.

Lol, I just told my dad that walking up his apartment steps is harder on my legs than the 5k.
I found a half marathon in December that I would like to try. I know I'll walk a lot of it, but I still want to try it. There's also a 5k taking place on New Years Eve. The point being you'll actually run into the new year. I would like to do that since N will have our daughter that night.

I am an old football, basketball, track, golf, and swimming coach. I know the feeling of accomplishment that you have. When I was a distance swimmer, (I wish I still was) I would feel some pain, and then a pleasurable burn would set in. Keep up the great work. You have a long life ahead of you. You are going to be on a great run!

Congratulations LD on this great achievement. Great to see you're able find a new passion, keep it going. Next goal: marathon?

Give yourself time!!!
5K to a ½ was a hard jump for me in my 20’s... Now that I’m TWICE that I can’t imagine- Though I’m soon signing up for my first half in years for January, I have been putting the miles up for a few months. Enjoy the accomplishments along the way- Running has FOREVER been my happy place, it’s a great opportunity to listen to your body.

Lol, I haven't signed up for anything. It's just a possibility. If do start training, then I'll sign up. I'm also ok if I walk most of it, because at least I'll get to say that I did a half marathon.

Congrats on medaling in your race! Running has been an escape for me my entire life. It has been life altering. If you are interested, look up local running groups online. I have made a lot of friends through my local one and it has really helped improve my times to the point where I regularly place in my age groups. Great job and happy running!!!

Keep up with the yoga LD! I think you are at least a decade younger than me, and with all these years of running behind me I now wish I had been better at stretching . . . better late than never . . . and enjoy your next race whatever it is!

I’m think that you’ll surprise yourself with the half. Finishing with ten minute miles and on the podium for a person’s respective age group is legit. I’m a former runner and competition is harsh is any race for any cause, that’s pretty awesome
