A different kind of new beginning

I got a new job! It's less work than I have to do at my current position, and more than double the pay. I AM SO EXCITED!!! Is it August 8th yet?

What I do is pretty specialized. I'm a solar designer. I've been doing it for over 10 years now, on and off, and it really is my passion in life. So finding a new job at my level has been pretty challenging. Most positions when you search "solar designer" online pay about $35k, and are entry-level positions. When you first get into it, it's a weeder job (think all of those breadth courses you had to live through your freshman year of college). I managed to work my way up, but was still earning way less than I know I'm worth.

I will soon no longer have a wreck of a boss to boot!

I didn't sleep much last night - like 4 hours, I was so nervous about this call today. But they offered me the job and I was soooooo happy to accept. Now I need to go take a nap. laugh laugh

That is wonderful news. Congratulations!

No one changes unless they want to. Not if you beg them. Not if you shame them. Not if you use reason, emotion, or tough love. There is only one thing that makes someone change: their own realization that they need to.

My old boss freaked out when we had a disagreement on Tuesday, and I told him I would be leaving soon. Rather than have me help with the transition, today, he chose to put me on PAID administrative leave.

He says that I know everything about the company (I do know a lot, but not everything) and he's afraid that I will take trade secrets with me. Now get this, what my company does has no trade secrets. There are no special secret parts we have, nor secret sauce we can apply that would make us any more special than any other company that does what we do. We just do a good job. And I can't take that with me. Nor would it apply to my new job.

I have not told him the name of the new company I'm moving to (IMO, that is none of his damn business and he may try to mess up my new job), and he's convinced I'm going to one of his local competitors because I refuse to sign a non-compete agreement, and have told him as much since the first time I interviewed with him. He was OK with that for YEARS, and now he wants me to sign one. The funny thing is that he's making it all about him, and it is so NOT. I got screwed over in my 20's by a company because I signed a non-compete. I will never sign one again.

But the funny thing is, I'm not going to one of his competitors; I'm going to one of his suppliers.

I can't wait until this is no longer my circus, and I can stop hanging around with all of these bat-shit-crazy monkeys!

ETA: I'm going to go get a manicure and forget about work for a while.

Sounds like it already not your circus or monkeys. Can you start new job early?

Too bad - Soo sad. If it was that important to him, then it should have been a condition of him hiring you back then.

Best of luck on your new position. Darn...a paid vacation/leave before your new job. Life is just sucking for you laugh

I am resigning tonight, a few days earlier than planed. This is the part I hate, and am nervous about it. Why can't you just ghost the old boss, like guys did to me all the time when they were no longer interested in pursuing anything? laugh

Oh MegMeg, it sounds so much cooler than it really is. Lots of time behind multiple computer screens. It's only about 10% designing; the other 90% is math. I hate to admit it, but I'm really just a math and Excel geek with a cool title on my job. No chai lattes in the break room or scintillating conversations about environmental policy going on over here. It's just me working from home, tending to my aging mother. I rarely leave the house unless I'm dating, mom needs to go to the doctor, or we need groceries. But I do get to the gym from time to time. Which is in my neighborhood, and filled with old people.

I start on Monday, and I got my company laptop today. This is getting very real! I'm still kind of holding my breath; it still seems too good to be true.

But when I got my laptop today, I opened my email and found that there is already an issue that I will need to assure is being addressed, and that I will be responsible for making sure it is resolved and does not happen again.

I played the lottery last week, and got my offer letter the same day. When I found out I hadn't won the lottery, I was ok with it because I kind of felt that I had already won when I got that offer letter.

I have 4 more days off before I start, and I plan on enjoying the hell out of them before it's time to buckle down and get back to work!
