I was laying in bed watching a video on puff pastry and started to get itchy. Then it got worse and was spreading. Got up looked in mirror and im totally covered in hives around my neck and face.
Took a Benadryl. Stopped scratching. Isnt as bad. But WTH!?!
I dont know what ive done to trigger this.
Haven't eaten since dinner.
Added shavings to pig box hours ago.
Using the same detergent on clothes/bedding.
Im not allergic to anything that i know of.
Any ideas what else can cause hives?

Benadryl really wipes me out.
Welts all over my neck are gone, replaced with redness. My face feels puffy.
Someone else told me they have been breaking out in hives alot lately with no idea what's caused them.

My boyfriend had a weird random small rash on his back that came out of nowhere. It didn't look terrible but there wasn't any discernable cause for it. He mentioned it to his doctor at his physical, it was actually shingles! You might wanna get it checked out.

Well thats just scary.
I'm going to call our telehealth number, speak to a nurse. Theres no chance of getting in to see my GP any time soon. Ill see if they recommend the walkin/urgent care.
Did your boyfriends rash stay? The redness where the hives were is fading. My face is still puffy.

No, it was actually almost gone by the time he saw the doctor. We were both really surprised because we had thought shingles was horrible and this wasn't THAT bad, just weird.
I hope yours is nothing but I'd def want yo get it checked.

Jana - Shingles is a weird virus, and often can just erupt and go away without creating blisters and pain, but that isn't a true shingles infection/flare.
A true one includes blisters, and pain, nerve pain because it follows nerve pathways.
It can make you wish for death for weeks.
Dragn - Was it a new/different brand of shavings? This seems like the most obvious cause of the hives. Make sure you shower, and moisturize, and use a benadryl cream on it. Also most skin stuff responds better to H2 blockers like claritin or even good old pepcid (yes the stomach medication).

Same brand i always buy and i had last used it around 3pm. Between then and when the hives appeared i had washed my hands a few times.
Just so weird.
We have Reactine in the house. Doc said she preferred that over Benadryl for Little M.

Oh, there were definitely blisters and he said it did hurt, but it wasn't awful.
The doctor told him he thought it was probably brought on by stress over the bleeding I posted about. Poor guy is having a hell of a time lately.
Dragn I hope you are feeling better!

Well i habent broken out in anymore hives. No longer itchy etc.
Yesterday was Hell though. Constant headache. Total exhaustion. Sore from head to toe. Spent most of the day in bed between helping kids with logging online.
Of course i havent been sleeping and i know that plays a huge part in me feeling like crap. 3 hours of broken sleep, wake up for an hour then back to 1, maybe 2 hours of broken sleep isnt doing me any good. This is sorta the schedule i have during the week.
Yesterday we also had a bad cold snap. -26°C. The bedrooms, bathroom and back hall are warm but the front of the house is an icebox. This morning at 3am wh got up to make coffee and found the outside doors open. Like wide fucking open. Thats after i watched the kids lock them so my first concern was a break in. Nothing gone. Kids all asleep in bed. I know, since its happened before that if the sunroom door isnt locked a strong wind will blow it open snd if the kitchen door to the sunroom isn't shut tight (its a storm door as well) it will blow open. I suspect when the kids locked the handles the doors werent shut tight. Need to make sure the deadbolts are locked not just the handles.
Needless to say the house is fucking freezing. I did get other heaters that we can use. And ill go get new baseboard heaters for the living room and kitchen.
Pisses me off that my 13yr old cant make sure a door is closed tightly when i drill that into them every time they come in it...then again my brats cant change a toilet paper roll or refill the filtered water jug.
So to see if it was the shavings that triggered the reaction i am going to do what i did Monday and see if i react again. I have the meds here in case it does.

This happened to my kid two years ago. Ended up in the er bc she was COVERED with them. They gave her a shot of something and eventually they went down (they were still there to a lesser degree a day and maybe more later)
She has food allergies and we made an appt with her allergist- he said it wasnt food bc of the timing (she had eaten a new dessert maybe 24 hrs before the hives). We never really figured it out! I think he said maybe it was hormonal/ environmental/ ???
They didnt come back though

I havent done the shavings yet. Been to busy dealing with a block of ice for a water trough thanks to my asshole husband who unplugged the line in thr house when moving things. Fml what a royal pain.
Ill get to the shavings a bit later once this mess is fixed. Oh and my hose that was inside was put out in the sunroom before it had a chance to fully empty so its all ice too. Currently soaking it in tub if hot water.
If anger could cause hives i would be covered right now

I had contact hives for years. (From maybe 25-33?) Did all kinds of tests. Doctor finally decided it was stress and put me on anti-anxiety meds (which I then stopped because I was going to get pregnant so who knows if that would have worked). Every once in a while it would get so bad that I'd have to get a steroid shot to stop reacting. They finally went away after my 2nd kid went to pre-school.
Now, my daughter (14) has started having both contact hives and random facial hives. We just spent a zillion dollars on allergy testing and nada. Heading to a gut doctor next to try and figure it out.
Honestly, I would not be shocked if it's stress. Between your kids, farm, COVID and your WH, I'm sure there's lots of stress to go around. I've personally found that I'm always at such a high level of stress due to the PTSD, that it takes just a small thing to send me into a panic attack. Perhaps whatever is going one inside of you has tipped over as well.
Hopefully it doesn't happen again and that you feel well. Having hives is scary and can be so hard to pinpoint a cause!

I'm the BS. WH had an EA/PA with a cOW. DDay was 4/17. Working on R. Married 15 years and together 20 at DDay.
DDay #2 and #3 6/19. Grew a conscience and admitted a full blown physical affair.

Oh i dont doubt that stress could cause it but i wonder if thats so wouldn't i have broken out way before this given the shit i have dealt with? Lol
Im just going to go stick my hands into the bag of shavings and wait lol

This happened to dd when she was young. First time eating eggs. She began to break out in red welts. Wh snd i watched them appear. Got into see the doctor and the marks were getting worse and spreading in his office.
Dd was tested and found not to have any allergies. Not to eggs or anything.
So the cause of the head to foot outbreak was and still is a mystery.

It is so crazy that you have mentioned this, because lately I have begun to break out in hives for seemingly no reason off and on repeatedly. First time I ended up going to urgent care facility and they had to give me steroid shots. I was covered pretty much head to toe. Now, I noticed that if I am wearing something like Leggins, where the elastic hugs my skin too tightly, I getting a row of red marks around my body, and then when I scratch it, the red welts appear.
I have decided that mine is probably most definitely stress related. I am assuming that yours could be as well.
And, T/J, what happens when your kids don’t replace the toilet paper? Do you get them another roll? I promise you that I know that it is ridiculous to tell someone what you would do if you were in their place, but I swear that I would carry a roll of toilet paper with me from a place hidden in my bedroom, and I would use it. And when I was done, I would take it out of the bathroom with me. So if they don’t put more toilet paper in the bathroom when they use up a roll, then they would just have to do without!!!

I haven't played in the shavings yet. Kids changed the pig pen.
If its stress then its bottled up stress because i was in bed trying to sleep when it started.

Hahaha. Knowing my kids they would just grab one of the hand towels and use that...
Its not thus is a hard thing to do. Toilet paper is sitting right beside the toilet. Many times they will leave one or two sheets on the roll, a case if not my job shit. Lazy!
