I've always listen to music based on mood. For me, during the A and for a while afterwards, it ping ponged between NIN, the Cure, Tool, a Perfect Circle, Foo Fighters and others.

I tend towards rock and electronic based music. Though, I'll listen if it has a decent beat and/or something interesting instrument wise.

To be honest, listening to music during that time was less about elevating mood and bordered more on confirmation bias.

What I found cathartic was writing it. For me, it was a release and helped me sort through things. It helped a lot and I still have the things that came of it. Of which, I listen to from time to time. I don't trigger when I listen to those tracks as much as I remember why they exist when I revisit them. Kind of history of things.

If I had to choose one track that I listened to a lot during everything it would be Pusifer's Undertaker.

You were way out of line,

Went and turned it all around on me again

How can I not smell your lie,

Through the smoke and arrogance.

But now I know

So you will not get away with it again

I'm distant in those hollow eyes

For I have reached my end.

So...

Thank you for making me

Feel like I'm guilty

Making it easy to murder your sweet memory

Before I go tell me

Were you ever who you claimed yourself to be?

Either way I must say goodbye.

You're dead to me.

So I...

Thank you for making me

Feel like I'm guilty

Making it easy to murder your sweet memory

I'm severing the hard line

I'm leaving your corpse behind

Not dead but soon to be, though

I won't be the one who killed you

I'll just leave that up to you

I'm not gonna be here to revive you

I'm not gonna be here to revive you

I'm not gonna be here to revive you

I'm gonna be the one to say...

I told you so..

I was never a fan of Limp Bizkit but when anger hit me, Break Stuff was Awesome!

In my car driving, not caring about anything. Just screaming the lyrics. Hahaha! I know I looked super cool!

ACDC, Dropkick Murphys, Social Distortion, Tenacious D.

Sorrow and heartfelt songs. Take them in briefly but get out of there. They're addicting and will swallow you.

I'm an extremist when it comes to music (although I enjoy all kinds).

When I need to get the pressure of stress out, I'm into metal...the harder the better (Slayer is my go-to band).

When I feel the need to de-stress, lower the anxiety, I turn to new age. A lot of Lorreena McKennitt, Enya, Yanni, 2002, Peter Gabriel's mellower stuff.

Just about anything from Alice In Chains, P!nk, and Lizzo—I absolutely love her right now. Lizzo and P!nk have been on my playlist on repeat since D-Day.

I love Alice in Chains, Down in a Hole seems like it would be a decent song for initially being in this situation. Pink and Lizzo aren't my thing.

BetrayedGamer, pretty sure its illegal to have Enya, Yanna and Slayer in the same collection. You might as well have Gwar and Tayler Swift on the same rotation.

I like a lot of Keenan has done, whether under Tool, a Perfect Circle or Puscifer. He's a really good lyricist.

When I used to work in an office that allowed music played low at your desk, it used to freak people out. Enya would be playing and people would walk by saying, "weren't you just listening to Slayer an hour ago?"

I enjoy everything from Disturbed The Light to Truth be Told by Matthew West. "I'm fine.No I'm not. I'm Broken".

I played a lot of "Overcomer" by Mandisa for workout music.

I have been known to play Before he Cheats By Carrie Underwood. Although to set the record straight I wouldn't do anything to anyone's truck.

And White Liar by Miranda Lambert LOUD and watch the video.

"The Truth comes out a little at a time".

I sort of like cheating songs....hmmm maybe I should get new taste in 🎵🎵

"It's a slow fade...when you give yourself away" so don't do it!

I bet it did. It's just not something that you'd think could coexist.

Great topic. Music has always been the biggest part of my personality and of course I used it all the time, and specially now after the infidelity.

For my XWW and me the swedish band Opeth was OUR band! And after the infidelity and divorce now I have mixed feeling when I listen to their music, now it have a lot of emotional baggage.

I will recommend you guys to listen to the song Sorcerees it become for me a kind of anthem after my wife cheated.

Here's an exceprt of the lyrics:

Can you confess that you thrive in chaos?

You're a sorceress and your eye is on the lost

But you're dying

It's in your eyes

You're a charlatan

You get everything you wish

You're a harlot

Carry poison in your kiss

Beg forgiveness

With a dagger in your hand

When I'm sad I listen to sad music, it's a powerful validation of our feelings.

These past days I had a bit of nostalgia for the past and for the things that didn't happened and I've been listening to a lot of Nick Drake and Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree.

A few months after my divorce I started to feel great for some time and a song that really really helped me was On Track by Tame Impala, it's a great uplifting song. Here's the full lyrics, that I will dedicate to all of you my friends:

I close my front door and turn on the light

I let out a breath and hold in a sigh

Ain't nothin' new, ain't that much inside

And if I'm counting days

Dream fruition ain't what it's looking like

But strictly speaking, I'm still on track

Strictly speaking, I'm holding on

One other minor setback

But strictly speaking, I'm still on track

And all of my dreams are still in sight

Strictly speaking, I've got my whole life

I lost a wheel a while back

But strictly speaking, I'm still on track

Trouble keeps falling in my lap

Strung out again, but still on track

I know it's unrealistic, over-optimistic

I know I tried before this, I know it's nearly August

I know I can't ignore this, looking forward to all this

Sayin', "Babe, I just adore this"

And "Babe, can we afford this?"

I know it's been a slow year, nothin' much to show here

I didn't really go for it, so not a lot to show for it

The hardest part is over, adjusting makes it slower

So glad you're coming over, I want to bring us closer

The world ain't waitin' for ya', nothin' to lose it over

We're just a shooting over, the rest comes easy

The rest comes easy

But strictly speaking, I'm still on track

Strictly speaking, I'm holding back

Troubles keep falling in my lap

Yeah, but strictly speaking, I'm still on track

So tell everyone I'll be alright

'Cause, strictly speaking, I've got my whole life

One other major setback

But strictly speaking, I'm still on track

Yeah!

The hardest part is over, adjusting makes it slower

So glad you're coming over, I want to bring us closer

The world ain't waitin' for ya', nothin' to lose it over

I just kept getting older, the rest gets easy

The rest gets easy
