Just saw a meme that says "Forget pumpkin spice. Let us know when tamale season gets here."

I approve that message.

I love pumpkin. As a matter of fact, I intend to completely fall into Apple and pumpkin recipes this weekend. I have to be careful with my diet being fairly clean, so I use a little bit cleaner materials, but I am desperately looking forward to it.

Somebody needs to come get some of my 3 crates of pie pumpkins (about 30). Already we've given quite a few to folks, here and there. I baked up about a dozen of them that came out of the garden with damaged rinds, scooping out the meat. The rest of the crop are still "curing the rinds" in an unheated part of the farmhouse, but I notice that as time goes on, a few of them are developing signs of getting soft. It's like when you are blessed with such an overload, the last thing you want to do is eat them?

I love looking at the little orange globes "curing" but I have the feeling they will not hold out for the winter in storage.
