First time for me posting in the off topic section.

Just a few hours ago we had to put our beloved dog Almy to sleep. She started collapsing last night, we went straight to a vet surgery but there was nothing they could do.

Almy was a 10 year old pointer. We rescued her when she was about 2 years old.

I would usually share a commemorative post on social media, but I have quite withdrawn from socials in the past year.

She was an incredibly sweet-natured dog yet stubborn and a little cheeky. She loved her food, including stealing everyone’s snacks if given the chance.

Above all, Almy was a great sister to our other dog as well as to our two children. Always gentle, patient and playful.

The first night back home from hospital with our first child, she stayed right by my side as I navigated my first sleepless night with a baby.

Her death today was completely unexpected. I know she was 10 but until yesterday she was still very active and athletic. Only 5 days ago she was swimming in the sea.

I am glad I gave her a cheeky slice of pizza yesterday evening. She truly enjoyed it.

I miss my girl. She had full trust in me (as a wayward this is something that hit hard lately).

I held her until she passed.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your beautiful pup. I have an old cat at home and I am scared of when that day happens for me. It sounds like your Almy was a beloved member of your family. And she knew that (pizza helps ❤️!) Please treat the grief that same as you would a human- it is a terrible loss and comes with all the same grief.

Have you thought about a memorial for Almy? A friend had a little stained glass window ornament custom made on Etsy for her dog and it was really cute and very affordable and now their dog is there all the time. Whatever you do, be gentle with yourself. 🐾🐾
