So dd has this rash thing on the back and sides of her neck.

It appeared after going swimming.

No rash anywhere else on her body. No one else has this who was also swimming.

Doc prescribed Betamethasone .05% 2×/ day. Other than moisturize it she says the cream makes it itchy.

A rash is a rash but this has been going on for over a month. It looks to get better then gets all red and scaly again.

She hasn't changed soaps, shampoos, anything that would explain this reaction.

Any advice or opinions are greatly appreciated.

Did she have a life jacket on?

It looks like it got rubbed and the skin got dried out.

I'm a huge fan of A&D ointment on skin stuff, usually putting it on before bed fixes it by morning, if it is dry it will moisten it, but I would not be surprised to see that skin flake off like a sunburn.

No life jacket and nothing around her neck. Spaghetti straps on bathing suit over shoulders.

It started out red and blistery. But it wasnt sun burnt.

And yes it did start to flake off and was starting to look normal when it just flared up again and looks like in the pic. And this is spreading. It started on one side and just a small area, and now its both sides joining together in the back, heading down her back and up to behind her ears.

We had better luck with just zinc diaper cream than the prescription stuff.

What is A&D ointment? Is that a brand or hydrocortisone cream?

Were y'all in a pool? Or swimming in a lake/river?

Maybe a chlorine rash or swimmer's itch?

If it's been a month, I would take her back to the doctor. Especially since its now spreading.

She was in our pool. Can you get a rash in just one area?

She always keeps her hair down on it which i have nagged at her about.

Yes i was telling her its best if we go back to the doctor. Im worried how it has spread.

Psoriasis ,atopic Dermititis? What exactly did the doctor say it was? How old is your daughter and does she have any allergy issues already? The cream the doctor prescribed sounds like it made it worse rather than better. Back to the drawing board with the doc. Maybe see a dermatologist who specializes in this.

Sorry just seeing this. A&D ointment is a petroleum based diaper rash ointment, and it is the bomb.

My kids are 24, & 22 and I still keep tubes of it, and Desitin (zinc based diaper rash cream) for most skin issues if one doesn't fix it the other does.

How's it looking now?

No allergies that we are aware of. She is 13 now.

Doc said "it looks like dry skin to me"...

It started to look better, the dark skin began to peel but then the new skin flared up all red and blotchy and it spread up her neck into her hairline. She says it hurts now.

I went back to zinc based cream. Seems to offer relief from the itch and soreness.

I am looking into how i get her to a dermatologist and in the mean time sending photos of it to her two medical teams at the children's hospital.

I am overwhelmed and exhausted!

We were supposed to just have follow up appointments for Big D and OT and then the girls and their yearly eye exam. Just normal run of the mill appointments.

Nope. Nada.

Were were away from the house for SEVEN hours!

Big D now has another appointment for special ABC testing of overall movement for both gross and fine motor skills. He has a huge booklet of work to do daily to work on hand strength.

Little M has a new prescription but more concerning is that she needs sunglasses or a hat on at all times when outside.

New lens will have transitions.

DD has dramatic myopia development in her left eye. She is going back next week for a more in depth test with drops. If the eye is healthy we will move forward with either a new special lens or new drops or both.

I was given a HUGE booklet to read through plus signed up for info to be sent via email.

OMFG!

And then getting home 5 minutes before wh with no dinner ready then trying to explain all this shit to him. Ahhhhhh

The whole day just made dd miserable saying she's got something wrong with every part of her and now she won't go back to the doctor about her rash. Which looks gross.

I want to pull my hair out, but wait im so stressed its falling out On Its Own.

That does sound like a very stressful and exhausting day. I can't imagine doing all that with four littles. I don't know how you do it.

I hope you figure out what's going on with DD's rash.

Goodness you have a full plate. I get it. Had to buy a calendar myself. I hope you can convince your daughter to go see a specialist. I know there are some pretty amazing doctors out their however it helps to find someone who focuses on one specific area to diagnose something. A dermatologist will have a broader knowledge base of the skin than a pcp. Atopic Dermititis can become exacerbated in certain conditions. Chlorine can cause this. Not saying that's it . I not medically trained enough to diagnose anything hence the need for her to see a Dermatologist. My son had some really weird skin infection when he was younger that had to be treated. Good thing we went too. The fact that it itches and is inflamed tells me it's important for her to go. It can become infected if not already. Hang in there. I hope things calm down a bit. May be time for you to schedule some you time.

I should have had wh come along. I couldn't take all of the kids into each appointment and with it being hot i couldn't leave them in the van. Luckily i was able to have the kids sit in the waiting rooms in AC as long as they wore masks. I gave them the mom look of death when i told them to behave. Lol.

The zinc cream is working better than the prescription cream. Im goong to take dd back to the clinic friday after i drop off the twins to their first day of summer school. They picked out what they wanted for lunches in between appointments yesterday and we got new pencils, pencil crayons etc.

I keep telling wh i need a vacation and he keeps saying no. That he couldn't handle being with the kids alone for that long...

That's such an asshole response.

Anyway, have you tried an antihistamine pill like Benadryl? Do you have to have a referral for a dermatologist? That's the only other option I know if the clinic does not resolve the issue on the next visit.

Dd cannot swallow pills....but i gave her liquid Benadryl. Didnt seem to have any effect.

I put calamine lotion on it today and that has helped. Looks better.

The fact that it will get better and then within a day or so get nasty again seems to me like something environmental. Something that is triggering her. She did react to a wool blanket but we changed that out and washed her bedding and pillow/case. Same laundry soap.

Hopefully Friday we will get an answer.

Try Nystatin, Monistat, or even the jock itch creams and see if its yeast based.

The rules with skin issues are this:

If it's dry make it wet, If it's wet make it dry.

So this is dry, and needs to be wet. I would stick with antibiotic/petroleum based ointment at night, hair off of it. Day time I would put Eucerin in the blue tub on it, and coat it and let it soak in, and even if it stops bothering her, keep doing it for another week.
