So, Ashley Madison has been hacked. The hackers have 40,000,000, yes, that is what they said, accounts hacked and ready to disclose. They have already leaked some to prove it.

I hope the site goes down, but I feel sorry for the fallout. Nobody deserves infidelity.

This makes me very very happy. The fact that their spouses don't know yet doesn't change that for me. The truth will set your free.

Apparently, the company offered to 'completely' delete your details if you paid extra money for them to do so - and it seems that this hack proves that they didn't (or couldn't) completely remove those details (because the hackers have them) ....but they did take the money to do so.

So it would seem (if proven) that not only do they champion cheating on husbands and wives - but they (allegedly) cheat on their own customers.

I read the title of this thread and before I even opened it my brain automatically went, "We're going to have a massive influx of BS's on here". My heart breaks at the thought.

40,000,000 is an insane number.

I actually joined to make sure my WH wasn't on there, and had to pay to delete my account. Totally pissed me off, but clever on THEIR part, I admit. So I guess MY name could come out...but there won't be any details, or naked photos, or sexual fantasies.....

I also worked the 2010 Census and am in the federal government employee hack.

Gotta love the hackers.

I just discovered my ex on a list from another cheating site that was hacked already in 2011.... she was on there from early 2009.....

Im crushed, this just reinforces my suspicion that my 2nd son isn't mine.....

Ill go through the ashley site leak just to check there as well, but i already know what im going to find.....

i am hurting for you. Go to walmart and get the dna kit. All said and done, it is less than 150 bucks. You have already assumed yor 2nd son is not yours. Dont jump to that conclusion with out proof. The dna test will be piece of mind.

And if he is not your son, then what.

Just remember there is absolutely no doubt in your sons mind who his dad is. He looks up to you for love and guidance, you are his world. Never forget that.

Just saw this on TV and have to admit I giggled a bit... okay, I laughed. A LOT. If *any* site deserved the hack, they did. As for the members who paid to have their info deleted and it wasn't, well, what did they expect? The whole site is about lies. Lying to the spouse, lying to family and friends and yes, even lying to the AP.

Maybe, just maybe, this will be enough to shut them down. They've been proven vulnerable so most won't trust them (and ain't THAT ironic) to keep their info safe. Now for AFF...

Can you imagine? 40 MILLION members? Gosh, what a shocking number and the people and lives that have been affected by cheating. No wonder we have so many societal problems (children affected, pain, suffering of BS's, health problems, violence, etc.)

When I saw this on the news my initial reaction was gleeful also, as the hackers apparently said if the site wasn't taken down, that all of AM info would be disclosed. I do feel bad for all the innocent who would get involved tho.

Maybe the hackers are all BS'ers. As in BS'ers Unite.

If all the info is released it will cause pain. But discovery of an A does, regardless of method. No doubt there will be divorces as a result but for some WSs this may be the bottom they need to hit to start making changes, to look at themselves and get the help they need. Overall, release of the info could be a good thing, especially if it results in AM getting shut down. We may very well get a massive influx of new members (both BS and WS) if this scenario plays out but that's why we're here, right? To help those who want and need it.

ETA: I just had a thought. It would be Karma in its pure form if it's discovered that the founder's wife was also a member...

It's the first time I've ever cheered over news that a site's been hacked!

Sadly, shock and pain to unknowing spouses may follow; however, the truth is the least anyone deserves.

Could be major fallout if people could prove they paid to be deleted and were in fact, not. AM will have to refund the dough. Bummer!!!! Not!

I just posted on another thread here on SI about this. I understand some of the personal information of random account holders was put online for the world to see until the perverts and their legal team at AM were able to get it pulled off the internet.

I'll bet a LOT of dirty rotten cheaters were shitting their pants when word got out that names and profiles were going to get posted on the internet.

They're not just releasing a list of confirmed current or recent cheaters. They're talking about releasing real names and addresses, photos, etc. Also, this would be a public release. Let's say your SO is cheating on you, or you had an SO cheat on you 5 years ago and you're no longer with him/her. Do you want full details accessible to anyone at any time in the future?

As to stated motive: "The Impact Team said it decided to publish the information in response to alleged lies ALM told its customers about a service that allows members to completely erase their profile information for a $19 fee."

One month and a few days after DDay, I joined, too, after first hearing about it while reading an infidelity-related blog. I was - and am still - horrified that such a site/option existed. I didn't even check to see if my WH was on there, but I was really shocked, and morbidly curious, to see what was there.

Within ten minutes of joining and creating the most minimal of profiles (no picture - just a name and one line about being curious), someone sent me a message asking to - I don't know, chat? Or whatever. I wanted to send him a scathing FYou message, but instead I didn't respond and submitted a request to permanently hide my profile - mostly because I intended to disclose what I did to WH, have the confirming emails to prove it, and I didn't want to give them money (or my CC info) when there was a decent enough option instead. In light of this hack, I'm especially glad I didn't pay to completely close the account, but the whole experience was jarring and, with it being so close to DDay, I cried for a long time afterward. SO many people near me. I did tell WH about it, but didn't tell him the name of the site at the time - I didn't yet trust him enough not to go and create a profile.

I still cannot wrap my head around how someone can choose to be unfaithful to the person they married, and while I believe a betrayed spouse has a right to know if a spouse isn't being faithful, I am feeling especially sad for all of the BSs of those who will soon be exposed. I hope that AM is so rocked by this hack that they are forced to close shop. I'm sure that won't happen, though, but if it does, I expect someone else will pick up where they left off.

40 million people. Even if 10 percent of their registrants consists of people like me and others who were just curious, and who never intended to use the site for its intended purposes, that is still a shocking number of people there.

Absolutely. I'd like to see the Impact Team make it an online database that is searchable by anyone until Noel Biderman goes broke from people afraid to fund that site. And yes, my wife used AM to conduct her affairs. If her information gets made public, that's hers to own. I'd like to see local media publishing names of people who are cheating on their spouse. Unfortunately, the DMCA will mean that this disgusting site will be protected and I doubt any personal identifying information will be out there for long.

Tred, I think if it's released it'll probably get packaged as a torrent, probably get posted on the dark web also, which means as long as there are a few people interested in seeding it, it'll never go down.
