First organic date meetup

FaithFool posted 4/26/2019 15:38 PM

So I've pretty much given up on online dating, the pool is very shallow and desperate in my wee town.

However, I was out riding my bike as usual last week, and stopped at a viewpoint I like to stop at to admire the beach view. It's not really a viewpoint but a turn in the sidewalk going down to the beachfront drive.

Out of the corner of my eye I see a bike pull up beside me, like RIGHT beside me, close enough so I had to shuffle over a bit to make room at the railing. I thought it might have been my ex who I haven't seen in months due to my NC request firmly cemented into place.

But no.

It's a rather nice electric bike with a rather nice looking man who started chatting me up.

I'm so accustomed to my own company that I was a bit gobsmacked at how bold a move that was on his part. I mean I could have taken offence at the intrusion on my private contemplation ritual.

But no.

After he admired my rear view mirror he confessed that he had taken the ganja earlier that day but that it was almost wearing off and would I like a sip of the organic wine he had just bought?

I declined as I had an empty stomach and (not having an ELECTRIC bike) needed all my energy to get back up my hill. But I did say I have been known to crack open a bottle of wine on that particularly lovely stretch of beach and we both agreed it was the best place ever.

Turns out he lives around the corner, is a Buddhist piano tuner musician/artist, and he builds ornate harps designed to be played in the wind.

Very interesting.

So he gave me his card before I rode off and I thought about it for a couple of days before deciding this could be fun so I emailed him last weekend.

He invited me to his apartment for happy hour but that was NOT going to happen on my end and he must have realized that from my non-response, so wisely invited me to the pub instead.

Interestingly enough from googling his address, he lives in a mansion rental (like mine) of similar vintage (like mine) and has the same suite number as I do. HOW CRAZY IS THAT??

I have a good feels about this one...he's very playful. Will submit a full report.

Onward.

Well we had a good talk about lots of things but he is so sensitive to pub noise he totes forgot to pay for his one beer when he left early.

Profuse email apology and now he owes me dinner.

Not sure if that's acceptable, I need someone who can at least hang at a bar...

Hi FaithFool, another silent fan of yours here, who couldn't resist chiming in on this surprising experience!

Was he really agitated enough that he bolted out the door? Or just couldn't hang out long enough to get the bar tab? Either way, that's...odd. But I have some sympathy for him, as I am too-sensitive to environmental noise, myself and I love music, too.

If he is that sensitive to noise, it isn't something he can help, unfortunately. Seems he could have plunked down the cash for his beer as he was getting up to go, though...

What will you do next?

FaithFool posted 4/27/2019 11:26 AM

Well he calls himself Mr Sensitive lol.

As an introvert myself I get that just being in new social situations can be draining, and that a super noisy sports bar on a Friday afternoon can be insanely difficult to deal with.

He did hang in for two hours so he gets props for that. He just faded really fast and I could see him start to shut down.

There's room in the world for all kinds, and I think he's just operating on a frequency not many 'normal' folks are on.

He felt really bad so I'm going to let him get the next round on the deck at the beach bar where the ambience is serene and there are no screens.

But he's definitely not boyfriend material for FF.

Onward.

Yup, there are indeed all kinds. Personally, I can't stand those kiddie indoor arcade places. The loud noises, flashing lights, awful acoustics. I literally lose my shit in those places.

Beach dad, the man I was dating, is very sensitive to noise and has to sleep with earplugs every night. Not an issue as I have a hint of that sensitivity myself, after working nights for many years.

You just need to know what you can deal with, and what you can't. An average pub? Yeah, I need that in my life. That could be a deal breaker for me as well. Onward, FF!

Girl, are you a writer? This needs to be in a novel.
But...what is ganja?

FaithFool posted 4/27/2019 16:55 PM

Ganja = merrywhanna

So, even if he isn't BF material it is still fun to make a friend.

But what a "meet cute" that would have been!

ahh got it
