During the cold months:
Homemade chicken soup
Roast beef with corn, mashed potatoes and gravy
Meatloaf and mashed potatoes
Year round (having grown up with an Italian grandmother):
Anything Italian: Eggplant parmigiana (my absolute favorite)
Lasagna, chicken parmigiana, any pasta with meatballs or meat sauce, chicken marsala, pappardelle bolognese, risotto, burrata salad, gnoccchi, pasta fagioli, cavatelli and broccoli.
Fried chicken with mashed potatoes
Favorite desserts:
Red Velvet Cake
Bread Pudding (I have a recipe from a restaurant in Disney Springs called Raglan Road, their bread pudding is the best I've eaten).

I have the grossest, most artery clogging favorite meal from my mother who was Dutch and obsessed with sauerkraut. Since I'm currently on a fitness kick (can see my freaking 6-pack!!) I haven't made it for eons. Maybe I need to...
It is a variation on Irish Colcannon.
1.Peel 3 or 4 russet potatoes, cut them into chunks and boil until tender. Drain and set aside.
2.Take a whole pack of bacon, chop it up, and fry it up in a large skillet until the fat all purges and the bacon is cooked but not too crisp. Drain the fat to a bowl and transfer the bacon to a plate.
3.Add 1 tablespoon butter to the skillet and sauté 1 sweet onion, thinly sliced, until lightly golden. Add 1 jar of drained sauerkraut and toss until well combined. Set aside.
4.Mash the potatoes with the reserved bacon fat and a splash of milk until fluffy. Add the bacon, onions, and sauerkraut to the potatoes and mix until it is well combined.
5.Transfer the mixture to a 9-by-13-inch baking dish and spread it out. Dot with butter.
6.THEN lay 8 or 9 knackwurst on the potatoes, pressing them in a bit, and bake the whole kit and caboodle until the sausages burst and the top of the potatoes is golden and slightly crispy.
7.Eat topped with more butter, unbutton your pants, and collapse on the couch.

There is a recipe from the Oh She Glows cookbook (it's a vegan cookbook in case it's not big outside of Canada) called Life Affirming Nacho Dip (very dramatically titled, but hear me out...) that is one of my go-to comfort foods. I'm not even a vegan (often I'll even make it with sausage marinara and I think I prefer it that way ). There is just something about the warmth and flavour and the texture of the dip with crunchy taco chips that I love.
