Clerical errors how is this even possible?

So i have mentioned wh was approved for a newer vehicle and we ended up with a van. Everything was handled over the phone. Vehicle itself was in a city on the other side of province and was driven out to us. When it got here, the driver took off the dealer plates and our new plates were put on.

Ownership with said plate and all the paperwork was provided.

That was back IN MAY.

Today i left to pick up the twins from school.

Passed Ontario provincial police parked at the 4 corners in town. I had watched a dump truck stop in the middle of intersection earlier and thought oh good cops are watching.

No sooner thought that that i noticed officer was behind me, then lights and siren...

Two officers approached, one on each side.

My van was flagged because my plates were NOT ATTACHED to this vehicle....

WTF!!!

They take my license, ownership and tell me to wait. I try to call school no answer so i email teacher. I tell the officers where i am going and that if they want they can follow me home to get all of the paperwork i got when the van arrived.

They then say to come with them to their vehicle. I am shown the alert and am instructed to go pick up the kids, come home then take all the paperwork to the ministry of transportation to sort it all out In a separate vehicle.

So i finally get a hold of wh tell him to get his butt home after telling him what happened, head to town get the twins and head home.

My brother came by to pick up other brothers boat so he stays with kids and wh and i go to town in other vehicle.

Wh had contacted dealership. They said it was a clerical error with MTO, get to MTO and they say its a dealership error.

MTO speaks to dealership. But it needs to be taken care of at thr MTO office in thr city the plates were purchased so dealership will be figuring it all out. We hope.

I have to still get kids to school AND have an appointment for dd tomorrow so MTO says go to OPP office and explain, which we do so im told at OPP

office they will send out an email so im "hopefully" not stopped and ticketed.

Wh said we will just do what we did before getting second van, idrive him to work and take the other van. That avoids any chance if a ticket and having van towed.

The plates were registered to the van on May 21. Yet taken off on May 25th. Who did it and why remains a mystery but dammit my nerves are totally shot!!!

Anyone ever experience a clerical error like this before buying a vehicle???

Not the same, but just as unbelievable. My husband has had a class A CDL in our state for almost 20 years now. About 6 years ago, he went to change companies - leaving one driving job for another. The new employer went to add my husband to his business insurance and couldn’t - because the motor vehicle department has his license on file as having been suspended for over five years (he has switched jobs at least three other times in that time period). Apparently, about 15 years ago, my husband got a ticket that he never paid. Somehow, it took more than 5 years for that unpaid ticket to be filed and update in the systems so his license showed as suspended.

Oh wow. How is this sort of thing even possible?

With it all online?.

With me having been driving this van for two months?.

Passing police every time i go out?

It makes NO sense.

I am very thankful the police allowed me to get the twins, didnt ticket me or impound the van. At the same time i just didnt need this today!!!

It was also DS's birthday. So glad i wrapped gifts and baked, decorated the cake well ahead of time. Didn't get back to the house until almost 5pm, had planned a huge fancy dinner but ended up throwing together what each person wanted amd went about our evening with cake. Oh man i needed cake lol. Chocolate soothes the soul i swear.

Then presents and out to put back seats in the silver van. Once done that i had to put Mr Fuzz face (goat) back in the goat pasture. How he can get out with the other four but not get back in with them boggles my mind.

I am mentally and physically exhausted yet i cannot sleep.

I hope this all gets fixed tomorrow.

Speaking of BMV frustrations. In my state you can purchase plates in multiyear or single year. Smallest time period is six months, but is only if you are within six months of your birthday. First time I tangled with the drawbacks of these rules I had purchased a new car a couple of weeks before my birthday. Even though I was purchasing the plates after my birthday, I had to pay for six months+ year to get me to my next birthday. Lesson learned.
This year my wife is buying a new car and passing her old one down to the kid. We're trading in the kids car, which is unfortunately titled in my name. New car will be in my wife's name. We were expecting to purchase it last weekend right after my birthday, so I didn't renew the plates. We are still waiting to here back from the dealer that they found us one that meets our needs, so I had to renew the plates for a year for what hopefully will only be a week or two.

Its been a super crazy day but we are close to a resolution of the situation.

Wh got call from dealership who said they confirmed at the MTO office in the city it was originally purchased from that the error was an MTO one. Wh was told by dealer to go to MTO office here where they should now have details noted on the licence account that they are to re issue the ownership with the plate to this van in WH name.

Wh calls me since i am in town. I go to office. They say no can do, nothing is showing please contact dealer.

I contact wh, he gives me dealers number, i call.

I am told to go back and ask them to call head office which i do.

They call their hotline and are given instructions on how to fix everything BUT they need the ownership (which i do not have because i am driving our other van) AND wh must do it NOT me. But the guy gave me a form for wh to fill out so that i am listed as 3rd party and CAN continue with the fix of the plate/van issue tomorrow.

All of that while dealing with dd and her eye appointment which was an hour long and totally triggered her anxiety. Eye doc was wonderful with her and got her through it. She goes back next week to have a quick scan then over to the frames area to see if the new lenses will fit her current frames.

8am to 3pm we were out of the house. Got home and found side door OPEN... we are 100% sure door was closed and locked. The handle was LOCKED so being open makes no damn sense....

Yup. Only the owner can do those things without an executed power of attorney. Heaven forbid you title them in both names, then you both need to be present or have an poa. That's why slowly all our cars are slowly transitioning into my wife's name.

The vehicle i had when we met was in my name. Same with the truck, i think. The two vans are in his name. Never bothered me since i could renew the license sticker every year without issue.

Plates and ownership need that third party form filled out.

Wh will have a hissy fit just doing that. Lol

Better than him leaving work again to get it sorted out. I can do that after i drop off the twins at school then go get groceries before heading home.

Hell yeah!!!!

And worse is that the plate was "unattached" from the van May25th yet i had passed police many times without triggering an alert.

And this isnt the first time the Ministry of transportation has screwed me over.

I got the sticker renewal for our old truck on a Friday. The person didnt enter it into the system....

Ontario Provincial police passed me while driving and came around pulling me over for failing to have a valid sticker.

When he saw the physical sticker on the license plate he said he knew it was just delayed in the system.

A year after that MTO insisted my sticker go ON THE FRONT of my Durango stating its a TRUCK.

I said its an SUV...

They said no its a truck, put sticker on front.

Again police pull me over...

I explain the argument i had with MTO, officer shakes his head and says just switch front and back plates.

Yes it is. Especially right now.

With covid the government extended all the stickers, health cards, drivers license renewals etc. So our other van still needs new stickers. I could do that online but they dont accept VISA debit

So the van is once again legal to be on the road.

Yay!

I took the new ownership to wh at work and had him sign it then was able to take my "red rocket" to pick up the twins.

Really hoping for a quiet, uneventful holiday weekend lol
