Luggage recommendation

josiep posted 10/1/2018 09:26 AM

I don't remember where I saw it but recently, one of our members asked about a good piece of luggage for a long trip.

Last year I bought the suitcase of my dreams. It's very light weight, has excellent spinner wheels, has handles in the right places so I can pick it up holding the 2 sides or the top and the bottom, etc.

And best of all, it's mid-range price of a nationally recognized brand in the USA, and I got a killer deal on it when I bought mine.

I bought the 25" instead of the 29" and that's now my limit when I travel. If it doesn't fit, it doesn't go with me. I loved my 11 days in Italy last year except for dragging my darned luggage over cobbletsone streets and hoisting it on and off the trains. When I got back, I went on a mission to find the perfect bag to suit my physical limitations which are more about the breadth of my reach than my strength - I can only hoist heavy things if my arms can be in a bit closer together now.

Took a lot of research and several mistakes before I found this one.

I'll ask the mods if I can post a link to the brand name.

Way back in the olden days, I used to be married to a guy who joked about needing to add a room on to our house to hold all my bags, luggage and purses.

I now live alone and travel alone. I have an opening under my staircase. It's full of luggage with the overflow in a closet upstairs. Although when I get to it, several of the pieces will be donated to the Hospice resale shop.

The suitcase I bought is Samsonsite Eco-Flex. 25" which only weighs 8.5 lbs. and is made out of recycled plastic bottles. I bought it at Kohl's and the sku # is 34214112. (mod approved information)

I don't see it on other retailers but a lot of the luggage companies make luggage just for this retailer and that retailer and there's always some little difference in them and they have different names.

I have a 29" hard-sided suitcase that I thought I loved until I traveled with it and realized it needs a whole bed to lie on to be open. It's great if I'm going to unpack when I arrive, like on a cruise or at my daughter's but for a trip where I'm changing hotels frequently, no way.

Anyway, wanted to share.

I love my Delsey large hard case. It's great for overseas travel and very light. It's hardy and has been everywhere with me with maybe two scratches total. The wheels move 360 degrees, and makes it easy to maneuver. The inside is spacious with a clip to smash down everything you collected over your traVels.

I also have the hard carry-on case, but I don't care for that one as much, only because the waterproof double zipper is so frustrating to pull.

Thanks Josie. I recently bought 2 red suitcases. One is 4lbs, expands, and is my go to. It fits in overhead bins. The large not much more weight.

Now I'm on the hunt for camping gear. I haven't been camping in decades, buy I love hiking and want to expand my leisure time options. Maybe just 2-3 nights tops. I just bought a tent for $27, and a sleeping pad that cost twice as much, lol.

Next credit card cycle, I'll look into a backpack and sleeping bag. The one I'm stalking is only $60 and $35 respectively. A steal.

Years ago, I purchased a Columbia suitcase at Marshall’s. I like it so much, when I needed to buy another suitcase, I went to a local Columbia outlet store and bought that brand.
