Infection provides some immunity, but it's not known to what extent and for how long. It varies from person to person.

Same with vaccinations and boosters. We don't know yet how long protection lasts, and it also varies.

Some articles I've read assert that those who have been infected and then get the vaccine have "superhuman immunity" compared to those who have just been infected or just been vaccinated.

Also, while having been infected or vaccinated may protect a person from serious illness, it doesn't protect others from that person being an asymptomatic carrier.

I figure that everyone will either have been infected or vaccinated in the coming months and that we'll start getting back to some semblance of normal in the late spring.

No "super-immunity" for my nurse friend who got covid early in the pandamec, got both vaccine shots and just recently had her breakthrough case of covid. It was symptomatic: fever, sore throat, loss of taste/smell and the covid headache, or she might not have known she was re-infected. Second bout was slightly shorter than the first. With all the variants developing, I hope she doesn't get a third. Her country contact traces and both rounds were never sourced, and since she uses extreme precautions at work and home, she has declared covid one sneaky MF. We can't be too careful now.
