Oh man as if my life isnt f'ed up enough...

Put a small load of laundry on just before going to bed. Laying there, unable to sleep,i hear a gurgling sound.

The laundry room is off main washroom which is beside master bedroom.

Walk into bathroom to find the toilet overflowing and the tub overflow with water pouring out of it, filling the tub.

A. Turn off washing machine.
B. Plunge toilet. Success, it stops overflowing.
C. grab every available towel to soak up water on floor.
D. Attempt to plunge tub drain. Water has stopped coming out of the overflow but tub isnt draining AND i broke the plunger... mad

Water is now slowly draining from tub.

I turned on tap in bathroom sink. Water does not back up into sink!
Same in kitchen.

So being that its most likely a clog, its in the line somewhere between washer, tub and toilet.

I have taped the toilet shut, set up the potty and another garbage can for toilet paper, praying the kids get the hint IF they get up in the night to go.

Its now 12:02...fml.

So is my best bet to get a bottle or two of draino in the morning OR a snake thing?

Note, all water is gone from tub now. Im to scared to try flushing the toilet.

Are you on septic?
And this happened when running the washer?
You may have an issue with drain going out of the house.
Ask me how I know.
Had brand new house and a day off. Ran washer, dishwasher, and drained tub all within an hour. It was too much volume for a pipe that shifted where it comes put of the house.
Backed up in my basement. Thank God it was just grey water that had to be cleaned up.

We have a septic and had a similar issue as Tush.

Water backed up through downstairs toilet and flooded basement.

It was an issue with the pipe leaving the house.

Yes we are on septic.

Everything is draining alright now. Seems to have been a clog in the pipe that comes from the washer, tub and toilet before they all connect to the main pipe leaving the house.

The set up from the three pipes is stupid. All coming together at a bottle neck point to hook into main pipe.

A clog at that junction will result in a back up of all three.

None of the sinks, which drain into the septic, backed up at all.

The only thing running water was the washer last night. The water that came out of the toilet snd tub was washer water thankfully. Not septic.

The sediment in the tub makes me wonder if the black gunk from the sulphur that destroys and clogs the water pipes has built up in the outty pipe lol.

Wh and i spent most of yesterday afternoon working on the pipes.

Everything from removing the access plug below the tub and using a pipe auger snake thing to putting drano then flushing with hot water as per directions down washer drain, tub and washroom sink.

At one point after plunging the water in the tub wh got a suction that nearly got the plunger stuck. Once off i was able to pull up a handful of hair plus black grime from the drain.

It got to the point where we could flush the toilet multiple times without it backing up into the tub so i did the drano and hot water thing a few more times and so far everything is draining as it should.

Today i am running the washer with only hot water to see if that backs up.

Wh and i clued into the fact that the main exit septic pipe has an access right before it leaves the house. He used the auger snake and figured there was a clog where pipe enters septic tank.

Opened the septic tank and yes its due to be pumped but where it comes from the house is clogged.

I have been using Tide pods for laundry which i think is the slimy gel stuff we pulled out. A google search revealed reviews of people saying the pods don't always dissolve and clog up the septic. Also lots of hair. So gross. And that's with traps on the tub drain.

No one can come pump out the tank until sometime next week and we couldn't unclog the pipe.

Thank god for portable camping toilet and i guess im heading to the laundromat...
