Hey brilliant people,

Any ideas on how to expand my world during a pandemic?

I've revisited old hobbies, walk and hike more, play online monopoly with friends and have a little covid pod I do a minimal amount of socializing with but I need something more. How do you meet new people and do more adventurous activities safely?

I definitely don't want to date.

Same problem here. ONe of my meet-up groups is doing online, but I am on Zoom calls ALL DAY LONG. I need something else.

I have met nice people in the classes I am in- I am sure I will stay friends with a few of them. Plus I’m learning stuff :-)

Yeah, I'm with you - no more zoom meetings, please. They are so frustrating - between occasional technical difficulties and the weird, jerky conversational rhythms.

I saw a woodworking class online today that appears to be meeting in person. I'll be fully vaccinated in two weeks so I may risk it. There's a drawing class I'd love to take but it's online and I'm not sure I want to drop a few hundred dollars to sit in front of a screen for another three hours a week, but I might.

I volunteer to clean a cat habitat once per week for a local animal rescue that's located in PetCo.

Are there any volunteer opportunities that you can safely do?

Do you knit or sew? You could make things to donate to places like the neonatal nursery, make stuffed animals to donate to the police department to give to children they are taking from their parents.

Take a mastergardener class. A friend of mine is one and has helped low income school kids plant a neighborhood garden.

You can also take mastercanning classes, and others so you can help man hotlines.

Oh I like the master gardener idea - we have those here though not sure if they're happening at the moment and I do love to garden. A pet shelter might be fun too. Sadly, I can't sew.

Pick a hobby you are interested in like beekeeping or gardening or pottery, then do a search for any groups in your area associated with said hobby.

I met a whole new group of super people when I picked up beekeeping and another when I took my scuba classes and certifications and they have learning sessions and social gatherings. The bonus is these people have the same interests. Our Beekeeping club has a few members that met there and are couples or ended up marrying. A lot of groups have their annual meetings educational sessions right about now to get ready for bees in spring.

I swim. It’s very friendly with coffee after about 3-5 x a week and it’s got the benefit of being healthy too. The same can be said for running and cycling. With you on the dating....I don’t know how that works it’s been so long
