I usually alternate between fiction and non-fiction.

On the fiction front, I just finished Arcanum Unbounded by Brandon Sanderson - a collection of short stories tying his various worlds together. I’m a fan of his in general.

I’m currently in the middle of Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman. So far, it’s one of the best books on cognitive bias and irrational thinking out there, and is on track to be my favorite non-fiction book period.

While it’s a behavioral economics book, it’s really applicable to all walks of life. I’ve read many of these types of books over the years (Richard Thaler, Paul Schoemaker, etc. - it was a focus of mine in grad school) and credit these insights into helping me deal with my situation, check my thinking and decision making, and understand my own and my wife’s thought processes and biases.

I highly recommend it.

At the start of the summer, I sped through E.F. Benson's Mapp and Lucia novels, which are like Jane Austen for middle-aged people, updated for the early 20th century. They are like eating delicious bon-bons. However! There are hints and whiffs of infidelity, and the series ends with a disclosure of a possible PA. Still, very amusing light reads.

I just read through this post and put a few recommendations on hold with my public library! I recently picked up "Enough as she is" by Rachel Simmons, author of "odd girl out", a book that had a huge impact on my understanding of female socialization. Insight into the human condition has always fascinated me. I'm done with relationship books for now 😉 Got my fill of them over the past few years. Back to reading what used to be my passion before adultery and it's aftermath became my new hobby.

I am reading Factfulness: Ten Reasons We’re Wrong about the World - and Why Are Things Better than You Think by Hans Rosling. So far, I am smarter than the chimpanzees
