Have always heard no one wins in a divorce but feeling pretty satisfied with the outcome of my (51m) divorce (17 year marriage)that was finalized 4 months ago. Just really wanted to talk about it and see if anyone else feels similar.

Background is caught her (46f) cheating and she said she wouldn’t end it. Stuck in pick my dance with her continued infidelity and cohabitation for three months while I figured out my exit plan. Kicked her out after she came home from an overnight with POSOM. She signed a lease with him a couple weeks later 90 miles from family home. Filed a couple months later and divorce was finalized just short of a year from filing.

Attorney asked what I wanted and I said the house and the kids (16 DD, 14DS, 11DS). WS was a SAHM for over a decade. She was back in work force a few years but making 1/3 my salary. Ended up buying her out of the marital home for about 30% of the equity. She got 25% of my 401k and I paid off her car. She gets the kids every other weekend (she picks up and drops off) a few hours once a week and we split holidays. I have final say in all decisions concerning kids (religion, medical and school). She pays $3,000/year in child support and gets no alimony. Still a six figure settlement but I feel like it was money well spent to get that lying cheating trash out of my life and away from our kids the majority of the time. Anyone else happy about their divorce settlement?

Wow, you actually got a really good deal.

I got pretty much exactly what you got. Except I should have gone for child support from her. It's not like I suddenly got more money after the divorce to help out with the kids' expenses. But as she makes way less than me, it would have been like trying to get blood from stone.

I guess that's the price I have to pay to get her out of my life.

This isn’t what any of us signed up for. But it is the hand that we have been dealt. Thus, we must play it.
