Song on the way in this morning...

hikingout posted 10/2/2020 08:20 AM

This song was very popular at the start of year 2 for me. I heard it this morning on my way to work, and it hit me in the feels.

"Better Boat"
(Kenny Chesney, feat. Mindy Smith)

I ain't lonely, but I spend a lot of time alone
More than I'd like to, but I'm okay with staying home
My how the last few months have changed
I'm smilin' more despite the pain

I breathe in, I breathe out
Got friends to call who let me talk about
What ain't working, what's still hurtin'
All the things I feel like cussing out
Now and then I let it go
I ride the waves I can't control
I'm learning how to build a better boat

I hate waiting, ain't no patience in these hands
I'm not complaining, sometimes it's hard to change a man
I think I'm stronger than I was
I'll let God do what He does

I breathe in, I breathe out
Got friends to call who let me talk about
What ain't working, what's still hurtin'
All the things I feel like cussing out
Now and then I let it go
I ride the waves I can't control
I'm learning how to build a better boat

I breathe in, I breathe out
Got friends to call who let me talk about
What ain't working, what's still hurtin'
All the things I feel like cussing out
Now and then I let it go
I ride the waves I can't control
If it's working I don't know
When I get done, the thing may not float
But I'm learning how to build a better boat

My FWW gets emotional frequently when she listens to the words of certain songs. She puts her mind there and truly feels my hurt. I can remember exactly where we were the last time we heard the song you mentioned.

HO,

Sharing stuff can help us all feel better at times, especially meaningful songs/lyrics.

Amazing how a song can become so interwoven into our lives and take us back to a moment or a place.

For me it is Woman by John Lennon, that came on one evening a month or so after D-Day when my BW and I were having a heart to heart talk. Man did I cry listening to that. Still do every time I hear it.

See, now you got me all emotional just thinking about what your song means and to you and what mine means to me.

Thanks for sharing.

The more I have started to work on understanding and fixing me the more emotional I have been. Both my BS and I have been crying at things on the television that in the past I would have brushed off. We recently watched a series called Julie and the Phantoms off the back of a song we heard which made us both cry. "Unsaid Emily" worth checking out.

The song that always gets me post d-day is "If not you" by Dr Hook. We went to see them soon after d-day, it has become our song.
