I think the only way a WS can "get it" is to spend several years putting in a lot of hard work to rebuild the relationship and after years of feeling like everything is going great, we made it, we'll be together forever, he/she discovers his/her wife has been having an affair and the safety/security he/she was feeling just evaporates.
Until then you will never truly "get it". Until then you can only be so empathetic.
My wife goes to work five days a week at the same place she had her affair and I HIGHLY doubt she ever thinks about it but I do every God damn time I have to go there. I look forward to the day my son graduates because that will be the last time I ever set foot there.
