Texas G2G - Spring 2019 Edition

At the Elf Party we started talking ideas for the next Texas g2g. We decided on the Hill Country area with a possible side trip into Austin. Think cabins instead of hotels, btw. We might be going a little rustic** this g2g.

Edited to narrow down the choice of dates:

April 26-28

And starting the list of possible suspects for the shenanigans:

inconnu

TrustedHer

WOES

HoldingTogether

Tred & Sandaway

lieshurt - maybe

traicionada

jjct - maybe

poopylala - maybe

Sazzy - maybe

Punky - maybe

mos - maybe

a couple or three oldtimers (including one that claims he'd need im-Moo-nity from the shenanigans) - ?

**not so rustic that we won't have indoor plumbing and wifi

PS - if you know any SIers that might be interested but don't hang out on SI any more, please spread the word. I've contacted all the SIers I'm friends with on fb, but I know I'm not connected with all of the usual Texas g2g peeps there.

Houston mini-g2g aka dinner - anyone interested?

Edited to add: we decided on April 7th. Location will be sent out by PM, so please post here or PM me if you want to be included.

I swear the last time some of us had dinner we talked about doing this regularly, but it's been months and months. I seem to remember MOS said that we're supposed to pick somewhere that serves tequila the next time, too.

So, who's up for meeting for dinner in the Houston area? How does either Sat. March 24th or Sat. April 7th work for people? Please suggest other days that might work better.

what's your favorite Christmas cookie?

I love the idea of the decorated sugar cookies, but mostly I'm too lazy to make them.

ya know it's Monday when...

10 minutes into your commute, you realize you left your coffee on the kitchen counter.

Thanksgiving - what's on your menu?

As some of you know, at my house we refer to this meal as our annual Carb Lover's Feast.

We also typically make the traditional meal, only tweaked a bit. We'll be having:

turkey - spatchcocked, dry brined, then smoked (at least I think that's the plan. My son may tell me differently next weekend.)

smashed baby new potatoes with creme fraiche

the ultimate homemade green bean casserole from seriouseats.com

macaroni and cheese made with English cheddar cheese with chives and shallots

roasted rainbow carrots

stuffing - typically a cornbread based recipe, but I may try something different this year

gravy

homemade cranberry jelly

and since I learned at the g2g that jpapa hosted that there needs to be at least 3 desserts - apple cider pound cake, something chocolate, and something else that I haven't figured out yet. Possibly the infamous crack, since I now have the recipe.

What are all y'all having?

hey Houston peeps! is it dinner time yet?

At the last Houston g2g, several of us talked about planning some regularly scheduled dinners, aka mini g2gs, in the central Houston area.

I think it's time to start planning the first dinner.

Edited to Add: the date is set for Saturday May 27th. The exact time and location to be determined, but it will not be posted in this thread. PMs will be sent out instead. If anyone is lurking but would be interested in meeting up with us, please either post in the thread so I know to send you the details, or PM me.

what's for dinner tonight?

I'll be throwing together a charcuterie board, pouring some wine, and enjoying a picnic style dinner with SO.

Texas - any interest in a Hill Country wine tour g2g?

Just an idea that's been floating around in my head for a while so I thought I'd toss it out there to see if there's enough interest to warrant me looking into pricing, lodging, wineries, etc.

I don't have any particular time/date/month in mind, although spring or fall would be better, I think.

ETA - I had suggested some weekends in April later this thread, but since MH is going ahead with the annual Texas St. Paddy's Day g2g, I'm going to postpone this one. Don't worry though, I am not going to forget about this idea.

There is steak and lobster for dinner, with chocolate mousse cake for dessert.

Jealous yet?

Thanksgiving - what's on your menu?

As some of you may remember, we call this holiday Carb Lover's Feast Day at my house so obviously there will be plenty of carbs on the table here.

What are the rest of y'all planning to have?

ds23 usually makes salsa at Christmas time but I convinced him (er...bribed him with a pressure canner) to make it early this year.

Earlier this week he made this

and today he started on the red
