I've been reading Marie Kondo's books ("The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up" and "Spark Joy") and for the first time in my life I feel like I can tackle the clutter and actually tidy up! I haven't finished the "marathon" yet, but I'm already feeling like this will work, and it is actually helping me mentally. Now I would never think that tidying up can be therapeutic, am I going mad? Has anyone else felt this way?

Absolutely. And there are a ton of studies that link clutter and depression, etc. not sure if that is a chicken and egg thing?

I can tell you when I am not mentally at my best, my office is a disaster. And when I want to make any kind of big change, the first thing I do is clean up my surroundings.

I need to read Spark Joy. Read the other and it's been a year and my dresser and closet are still immaculate.

I was fortunate enough to discover Marie Kondo a week ago, when at my lowest. I read both books back to back, and I'm in the process of tidying up everything. For the first time in my life I came across a system that makes sense, and I feel relief at getting rid of things that no longer spark joy. I thought I was messy but so love tidying up now, it gives me some sense of order, and helps me get a grip of my relationship crisis. I never thought it possible, but it helps.

I am by nature a very "neat and clean" person plus I am a minimalist...kind of...

But this book (aka audio on Youtube) was life changing for me! Despite having few nick nacks, I did have some crap that has been traveling with me from state to state and back that was my grandmother's bla bla bla...I finally gave this crap up! It was one of the most freeing things I have ever done!

My house is now even more "empty" but I love it and somehow, -and don't judge,(lol) I grew up as a person, giving myself THE RIGHT to discard what I have kept for years out of pure obligation to the people who gave it to me!

I cannot explain how GOOD it feels, when I now walk into my house and KNOW that this shit from past family members is GONE! I AM FREE!

This book/audio online was one of THE best pieces of advice I have followed in regards to cleaning/ decluttering - EVER!
