Something nice

HFSSC posted 10/20/2020 20:46 PM

I just needed to share some positive here. 😊

This year, obviously, has been crazy tough. For everybody.

Money is really tight right now. DS in college. I missed a total of 8 weeks of work because of this damnable virus. JM’s business is doing okay but is entirely dependent on customers buying his furniture.

So... today. JM is working on a project for my job that will bring in a nice paycheck. He needed a piece of wood to finish it and we literally didn’t have the money in our bank account to buy a $48 piece of wood. He was typing a text to send me so I could let my boss know he wouldn’t be able to finish it until after payday next week. And he heard a car door shut. He walked out of his shop and there was a couple walking toward him. They asked him if he was the “man who makes picnic tables” and he said yes. Then they asked if he had one available and we had one in the storage building at my FIL’s house. So they bought the table! And JM bought the wood he needed.

Next... DS21 called me from school. He’s in a military college on the coast, about 2 hours away. He called me this afternoon with a headache. He was almost in tears. He didn’t even have any Tylenol and didn’t want to go to the infirmary. At that moment we had an overhead page that we had a heath department inspector show up for an “unannounced visit”. My mama heart was just... ugh.
We have a Facebook group for moms of cadets at this college. I threw out a plea: “Anyone local that could bring my son some Goody Powders and a Coke?” And within 30 minutes, I had a mom visit my son and bring him what he needed. Total stranger to both of us. But a mama who knew what I was feeling.

His headache is better. No fever or any other symptoms.

And I feel so blessed. There’s a song playing on Christian radio right now that I love. The chorus goes “Though the mountains may be moved into the sea, though the ground beneath might crumble and give way, I can hear my Father singing over me “It’s gonna be okay. It’s gonna be okay.”

Human kindness makes life so much better.

I truly believe most people are good.

Somebody got a nice table too! :)

They did. His work is beautiful and he takes so much pride in it.

I'm loving all these positive stories.

..I had to ask,

..'some Goody Powder and coke'..???

How is his headache now??

..just pullin' your chain for giggles..

lf says Hi..

HFSSC posted 10/27/2020 14:11 PM

Goody Powders

Whole different thing. 😂😂😂😂😂

Yeah, the other things would definitely cause him some trouble at El Cid. 😂

And tell lf I said Hi and I love her. 😊

somanyyears posted 10/27/2020 14:35 PM

..I confess that I have no idea what Goody Powders are, never heard of them up here in the frozen north...( by the way, it's snowing here, our first sprinkle of the white stuff!)

As a kid, the store that sold 'cent candy' had a sour-sweet powder with a licorice straw called 'Lick-um Aid'.. (??sp.)

The name 'Goody-Powder' would be a winnner in anybody'y's world! ..in anybody's language!

smy...lf says she loves you too.

HFSSC posted 10/27/2020 16:11 PM

Okay, so this really must be a southern thing because I was asked by several moms on the FB page too. Goody Powders are magic.

It's aspirin, acetaminophen and caffeine. Powdered form so it absorbs more quickly than pills. They also taste awful, which I think has some sort of placebo or homeopathic effect on the headache.

DragnHeart posted 10/27/2020 16:25 PM

I could go for some Goody powder right about now.

Smy, snow here too. Omg I didn't expect it this early! Ugh!!! Hate it.

Talk about a headache. The weather was in the 20's just a few days ago and today it's so cold I have the heat cranked. My head is spinning.

This brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing.

Midwest Girl here. I know what Goody is and I think it works so fast and effectively because its a powder and a great combo of meds for curing what ails ya.

I used to have migraines and that shot was the bomb and a diet coke it often stopped one in its path. of course now I'm old and can't tolerate the caffeine.

Haven't shared for a while! May I share something nice, too? (slight threadjack)
Such happy news for you and JD....it's the little things and acts of kindness that truly help in this time of anxiety amidst the pandemic.
I listened to the song, Into the Sea by Tasha Layton. What a beautiful and inspirational song. It took me back to September 13th when our little church (rural parish) finally reopened with COVID restriction, of course. We had had Zoom services from Easter Sunday through September 6th.
The church newsletter editor stood up a couple of weeks later during the Announcement and asked parishioners how they felt coming back, just a sentence. This is what I wrote: "I am home: I feel blessed and grateful, surrounded by God's love, mercy, and compassion, and enveloped in His Grace." Now that song would have been perfect as a prelude to the service.
What's even a greater blessing (we can never have too many) for me is that this Sunday I will be behind the lectern, delivering my first Reflection (Homily) since March. I have been reading scripture, leading the prayers, and singing the Blessing at the end of the service, all while masked, of course.
As you know, this Sunday is All Saints' Day, and I will ask the congregation to join me in reading aloud the Gospel, The Beatitudes. How appropriate they are to live and serve in these times.
Blessings to you and your family,

I love reading this!
The goodness out there during these trying times is a testimony to the human spirit...💗
Happy All Saints Day!
