True story today:

Me: how do you think Mr. O is doing after coding in dialysis?
Critical care doctor: I think his prognosis is pretty grim. His right eye is already fixed and dilated.
Me: um, that's a glass eye
Critical care doctor: Well shit!

Of course later the caring MICU nurses put eye lube on his fake eyeball and taped the lids shut to protect the non existent cornea..ya know... Cuz it was fake and all. I didn't have the heart to tell them.

(Waywardson's grandfather blew out an eye at work and had a glass eyeball (and a couple of spares). They're still in the roll-top desk.)

One of my stepfathers had a glass eye. He used to tape it to his forehead when my girlfriends came over when I was young. I still remember their screams.

I remember as kids we would look in his eye and see pink. It was so freaky.

Ok now I just feel defeated.

Seriously, that is just inexcusable. They don't make us (nurses) like they used to.......

!!!

Still, every cloud has a silver lining..... Since no one but you could apparently tell that it was not a genuine eye, it may be a story that will reassure those who have just learned that they will have to wear an artificial eye.
