It's confirmed that my team lead is suing the company for allowing me to create a hostile work environment. Our attorney has determined that I have done nothing wrong, but they still have to answer all of the allegations. My manager has continued to screw things up royally. I finally had enough and called HR. I have not lodged a complaint against her, but I'm keeping track of everything, as I'm afraid some of it will be used against me at my next performance review *sigh*

I had a good talk with the HR manager. Then the vice president called and tried to allay my stress further. I feel like they get it at least. It's just tough because I never treated her unfairly. They've been trying to get rid of her for years, and when they finally got their chance, my manager cocked it up. She's been 'spoken' to I have no idea what that means. Ugh.

I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.

I'm sorry. I can't imagine how stressful that must be.

I hope this isn't a dumb question but are you going to have to go to court and answer questions?

It is so totally their own fault for not firing this woman sooner. Of course I guess she was always going to sue over something.

Do you feel secure there still? Or are you going to put out feelers?

Hope the storm passes over soon and that she's the only casualty.

(((Sazzy)))

It's confirmed that my team lead is suing the company for allowing me to create a hostile work environment.

She's the one who cussed you out at the Rock em' Sock em' meeting your manager assembled, right?

I'm so sorry you have to go through this, but your professionalism is going to shine through all of this. She can do whatever she wants, her true colors are going to show and she's going to be left embarrassed and jobless with a bunch of legal bills.

Sending big hugs.

Yes, Jrazz; she's created all kinds of problems. Her 'friends' are in open insurrection now. They're taking extra breaks and longer breaks, daring me to say something. Therefore, I have to institute global policies that pretty much punish everyone for their bad attitudes. One is leaving at the end of the week (moving on to another job); the other, well, we'll see. She may calm down when the her friend leaves.

I did want a challenging job...

Doesn't there need to be some kind of discrimination factor (age, religion, disability, gender) in a hostile work environment claim? What is she saying is the basis for discrimination? I am confused. She seems like a trouble-making lazy ass that should just have been fired for non-performance. Isn't she an at-will employee or does she have some kind of protected status by contract or union? I guess I don't know the whole story but what a ridiculous mess. I'm impressed with your professionalism in the face of all this chaos. Hang in there.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this idiot and her band of missing brain cells.

She may calm down when the her friend leaves.
My guess is that if she's the only one left, without her "crew" to amp up the bravado, she'll calm down. She may still give you the cold shoulder, but she'll likely act out a lot less. Cowards tend to act in groups.

That's what I thought. Her complaint is that treated her differently than anyone else. She was actually treated better in most cases, but never worse than anyone else. I turned her down one time for a vacation day and I did not give her an 'exceeds expectations' on her annual review--can you believe that?? She received a 'meets expectations' and she's pissed.

The crux of the situation is that she requested part time status for her last semester of nursing school. She was turned down for this status (by management, not by me) as a team lead, but she could have taken a regular staff position part time.

She just saw an opportunity to make some money. This company tends to settle out of court, so who knows what will happen.
