I was at work and someone commented on my Rolodex. Now it's not a hard-core one that spins, but it's a desktop one that I still use.

I also still love 'paint' white-out. I really hate the little handheld 'tape' rolly-thingeys that most companies put out now. I hate them because, for some reason, I just can't like aim them correctly.

Anything y'all still use that is considered 'old school'? I also (try) to still keep an address book for home (remember those?! LOL!)

I still use a checkbook and not a debit card AND I use carbons behind my checks.

Typewriter....I wish we had one at work.

Count me among the whiteout-tape-challenged... I can never get it to do anything but get impossibly tangled and nowhere near what I want to white out.

I have a cache of old-school lightbulbs. I went a little crazy when they announced they were discontinuing incandescents.

Then I bought one of the new "fake" ones shaped like the old ones and find it to be quite OK.

So I'll probably die of old age before I use up all the old ones. Who shall I leave them to in my will?

I wish we had one at work.

we've got one - IBM Selectric. Every time I hear someone using it, I flashback to high school typing class.

I'm really kind of embarrassed to say this but I still use hot rollers. It's the only way I can get smooth hair with some volume in the swampy humidity that is summer in KS.

I very much like “woodies”. The pencil folks…the pencil!

I also tend to use “white out” liquid.

A “straight edge” and a “scale” (and why you don’t use one for the other). Those older engineers among us will know these things. It bothers me no end that some of the engineers that work for me haven’t a clue what these are.

“Hard copies” of reports. That I even have to use that term pisses me off.

Calculators!! Believe it or fucking not….calculators are going out of style. Some times I’ll go over to chat work with one of my younger engineers and I ask if they have a calculator...and they pull one up on their computer.

A watch.

Land line.

I'm probably going to be one of the last hold outs, but I can't give up my land line and go strictly cell phone only yet.

Damn...I was just thinking about Land Line.

My kids said to me once not too long along:

"I think we're the only family still using a land line".....and they said it in the "OMG how embarrassing that is" kind of way.

There is nothing wrong with a landline. I actually HATE talking on my cell, so if you wanna talk, all my peeps know to call me on my landline!

That dumbass white-out roller thing sucks. I have messed up many like a bad cassette in crummy player...and just chucked it because you can't 'rewind' it back into its case. Those need to go for real. Some things DON'T need to change!

Typewriter I can do without, I can type - just not on that. LOL!

I also still write checks and use stamps! I asked if anyone had a stamp the other day and got a lot of this face LOL!

I resemble those remarks! I still have/use whiteout, address book, land line (actually have an old "princess" phone that does not need electricity to operate), checkbooks with copy checks, a datebook as opposed to electronic schedule, newspaper delivery, paper books, magazine subscription, broom, snow shovel, make or buy ice cubes instead of having an icemaker/dispenser, cook and bake mostly from scratch, listen to FM radio, CDs and tapes, and probably lots of other "old school" things.

I only thought of the things you all mentioned as "old school " because they were mentioned that way here. To me, they are my "normal"! I do also use debit cards, electronic alarms and reminders, and love the convenience and doing things the easy way, but sometimes a substitute just doesn't cut it!

bighurt - I still love CD's too. I know all my track numbers to my songs; I don't have to 'google' them or whatever. I pop in a CD and know, FF to this number.

I also hate e-readers and love actual books. I like holding and toting them. You know the smell of a good old book, it's just 'home'.

I also miss photographs. I caved and got a digital camera because I don't even know who develops film anymore. While it is convenient for school projects, I hate not 'flipping' through photos anymore.

I have two pair of these that I wear. They are the exact same style I wore in about 1987 in the 7th and 8th grade.

And land lines with phones that work when the hydro is out - got one of those too. Some things change for the better and some things don't. And auto correct? That's something I can do without too. I'd rather spell it wrong then have the wrong work inserted. And, I'm still crying about my Sweet Maries. Why oh why did they stop making those. Life is not the same without them. Boo hoo.

I had to be forced into carrying a cell phone by my kids and S/O, who for some reason think it's important to stay in touch with me during my commute to and from work. In this, I was not as Luddite as my sister and her husband who not only don't own cell phones, they do not even have an answering machine or service on their land line.

Though I was an early adopter of computers, fax machines, e-mail, mobile phones, etc. in my business and/or personal life, there are some old tech things I still cling to. I don't own a cheque book any more, do all my banking on-line, but I

1. have a standard (i.e., not digital) land line phone, bought after the last maxi-electricity outage here in Toronto in 2003,

2. still keep a paper address book in case cell phone crashes,

3. love my ancient stapler in my office (circa 1945, the year of my office's inception, I swear). Works perfectly which is more I can say about some modern ones,

4. have a calculator (large numbers for aging eyes) in spite of my cell having one,

5. keep a date book to organize my time, even though I also enter meetings, chores in my computer Outlook,

6. have Kindle, but more often read paper books. They don't need to be recharged, something I suck at, as my kids and S/O will happily tell you, and

7. still use a flashlight (actually a huge Maglite!) while my S/O has a flashlight app on his phone. I even have a tiny flashlight on my key ring so I can see to open my front door on winter evenings.

I'm almost 67, so can I be excused?

I think those of us beyond 60 have the best of both worlds really. I've been working on computers since before they invented the millennial.

Hey, FF, I have waxed paper. It's never gone out of style, though parchment paper works better for some things. .
