Help!My sweet Cinnamon is stuck 50 feet up a tree... again... Last September, she climbed up there and was up there for 4 days, til the animal control officer called in a favor to the highway department. He said it was a one time thing.

There are no low branches for her to climb down upon. The fire department won't/can't help. Tree services won't come out to rescue a cat due to liability issues. In the past we tried to coax her down, but to no avail. I'm completely out of ideas.

We think she got chased up there overnight, so shes doubly scared. The tree is over the lawn, so if she falls or jumps, there's a soft landing below. I'm so scared for her. We have thunderstorms coming in a few hours. Not sure if the rain and thunder will scare her down or scare her more and make her retreat higher. There is ample shade up there, so if there's sun, she should be ok I think, but it has been pretty hot lately, and without water, I hope she'll be ok.

She will come down in her own good time. I had a cat that would get up on the roof - I spent the first couple of nights chasing her from one end to the other- me on the ground with the ladder!

Cats are climbers. She got up, she will get herself down.

Thanks lucky. I'm hoping that's the case. The last time she was up there, after 4 days of no food or water, she was pretty weak and couldn't make it down. I guess my main concern in the summer heat, is dehydration. My poor silly girl. She sounds so scared! I'm so angry and scared and worried. Another big concern is the Fisher cats have been up there in the past. She seems calm now, but that's not necessarily a good thing, because she doesn't seem as desperate to get down.

I would call a local animal shelter to see if they had ideas or could help. What about putting out an open can of tuna fish? Maybe the smell will entice her to come down. Sending safe kitty mojo. Please keep us posted.

I have heard that if you have lost a cat to put their litter box outside. They will be attracted to their own scent. Might be worth a try.

Try opening some cat food under the tree. The scent might lure her down. My cat comes running from anywhere when he hears the bag or a can opener.

This may sound silly, but do you have neighborhood kids that like to climb trees. My kids are always up a tree and if someone's cat was stuck I know they would try to get them down. Worth a shot.

I hope she comes down soon.

I had a cat get stuck in a tree. My vet said that cats sometimes do get stuck and won't/can't come down on their own.

I called tree services I found on Craigslist. What one company refuses to do might be worth doing for an independent guy with the right equipment.

It cost me $50.

Good luck!!

Rent a bucket truck, and get her down yourself, if you are convinced she won't come down.

But I am willing to bet with the right incentive she will figure it out.

Oh and you may want to consider making her an inside cat from now on.....

Thanks everyone. I've been at work, so haven't had a chance to respond.

Jo, we called the vet, pound, and animal rescue league, they all said to offer her food, gently coax her, and she may come down on her own. We tried the tuna, fancy feast, shaking the dry food, and continue to, but as with the last time, so far it's not working.

Lucky, I'll try the litter box, but she hates to use it, gets her girly toes all dirty and this time of year, she will only go outside.

NL, normally nothing stands between her and the can of catfood, but right now the only thing its attracting is Felix, the cat next door.

SD, we sent someone, an adult neighbor, and well experienced climber, up the tree, but she was so scared, she went up higher. There are no lower branches, so nothing for the kids to climb. I would hate to risk their safety to rescue my cat.

CG, I already tried a few, but since it's after 5, I can only reach the emergency crews which won't come out for a cat. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep trying. I never thought of CL as a place to look. Great idea! T

Tushnurse, ironically I had a weird gut feeling, and brought her in last night, but she slipped back out through a broken screen and I didn't see her again til this morning when I went outside and heard her meowing. Im hoping we can discover just what would be motivation enough to come down. The sky is getting really dark, and the wind is picking up, hopefully it will rain and that will be the motivator. We've tried keeping her in, but she won't have it. Time to be more vigilant about bringing her in at night. We've kind of slacked in that department because she usually stays on the porch railing all night, and we leave a window open for her to come in and eat.

Again, thanks for all of the ideas we've kind of run the idea mill dry here, and a fresh perspective always helps!! Just keep up the kitty mojo for our sweet girl.

I'll call the rental place tomorrow. (Its a small town, and everything closes up early around here) Hopefully they will be able to quote me a price and let me know their availability.

I would definitely go with the bucket truck.
Hopefully she will come down in her own.

How about calling a tree cutter guy? A little out the box, but they can climb!

I've been thinking of your kitty all night.
Did the storm drive kitty out of the tree?

Thanks luvbug. It never did rain or storm. She's still up there. My poor baby. I'm hoping today doesn't get too hot.

Can you call your local TV station and get some media on it today to ask for help?

When my friend needed help with her kitty, the local fire department did come, I'm not sure why your department won't, maybe because her town was a small one?

Good luck!

We also live in a small town, and They did come by, but said they didn't rescue cats in trees because if they were up there and got an emergency call they wouldn't be able to act quickly enough. They said they haven't rescued cays from trees in over 20 years. We did get the highway department to come by with their bucket truck last year, and Jay, the animal control officer was able to get her to come to him and got her down. But said that was a one time thing. We think we are going to try and wait her out so if she does this again, she'll know how to get down. Im going to try some tree services today to see if I can get them to come by in avfew days if she's still up there.
