I see you have small kids...if you have separate cars and the kids ride in both...I suggest buying a stuffed animal, hollow it out stuff the VAR in re-sew and wedge it under the front seat.....

Under the seat is a common hiding place for vehicle owners. I'd pick a spot that serves no purpose for hiding things. There are a few open spots between the steering column and the gas pedal.

The further you are from the bottom of the vehicle, the better. Also try to stay away from any electronic wires underneath the seat because of interference. The stuffed animal is a great idea, tho needs a repeat closure since I'd think you'd use it more than once. For awhile, I hid mine in a cigarette pack under the seat since we're both smokers. The best setup I came up with was buying a corded microphone that attached to the recorder, then I snaked it up under the seat cover so it was placed high up by his shoulder. I could hear everything real well & the recorder was under the seat for easy access to change batteries or recorders. If you do long term surveillance, you're better off buying two of these so you can make quick changes.

When I went to trust but verify, we no longer had the vehicle with seatcovers. I found some black, thin 1/4" foam in a package (I'm sure you can buy this stuff at office supply or fabric store, it's basically packing material)and using aluminum foil as a template, I made foam inserts for spaces that were on the door panels & one for a drinkholder that is behind the front seats for back seat passengers to use. My husband now uses bifocals, but not when he drives, and I was correct in my assessment he wouldn't be able to guage the height difference when I've slipped the recorder under those inserts. The one for passengers is the best, but you can also accomplish the same by putting a magazine or some papers in the door panel holder, if it's something that's not used frequently. Good luck!

FWIW, because of brain damage, I write in storyteller form, so hardly any short posts from me & bad eyesight gives me a 50% edit rate..Apologies in advance!

I used Velcro. I taped it under the seat, then put some on var, that way I could just rip.it off but stick it back on quickly. Velcro is easier because you don't have to retape.

I sewed a small cloth case under the line of his jackets and to open and close the case I sewed velcro. In the case I put the VAR.
He carried the VAR all the time with him.
They might suspect the car and the cell phone, but the jacket...

I bought a small microphone and plugged it into my VAR. I threaded the microphone underneath the upholstery of the side of WH's driver's seat, placing the microphone next to the headrest. I placed the VAR itself under his seat with velcro so that it would not rattle around or be seen if he looks under his seat. When I check the VAR, I just unplug the microphone and plug it back up when I put it back.

It's also much easier to VAR the house. I for one would be afraid to VAR my WH car. He works on it a lot, and he would be mad and I would feel like an idiot if he found it. I just don't need that possibility.

If you can do it go for it. But you can also give them the rope to hang themselves right in the house. If you can come up with a regular schedule to be gone during his off times at home when he might be sitting around, I believe a WS will definitely contact an AP from the house. The reason I say come up with a scheduled time, for me it's a class one night a week, every wed like clockwork. This type of thing lulls them into a habit, and if they are communicating with an AP, it will become an obviously opportune, predicatable, regular time to communicate. Much easier to bug a house than a car and much less likely to get caught, imo. Even if you do get caught, you can just play dumb and act like it was recorder for business meetings or a school project or something.

Also, you can bug your own car of course and encourage them to use your car. I'm probably not the only one who's WH knows every inch of his car and is always messing around fixing it, but it kind of takes some stress off by not having to keep THEIR car bugged.

Thank u guys

He goes to his car alot to talk, using excuses to leave home (going to gym, left work item in car, etc).

I like the velcro idea - easy switch
