We were on vacation this week, at a resort, really fun, good feelings all around. We were checking out and the woman in front of us had on a t-shirt that said, 'Got love? Adopt.'

I said to her, 'I love your shirt! We've adopted two greyhounds. I love rescues.'

Then as I finished saying it I realized that the shirt might be about adoption of children, not dogs! I felt terrible, and so stupid and insensitive.

She did reply, 'We have a golden'. So, I'm not sure if she said that because she was appalled and caught off guard at my sensitivity, or if the shirt maybe was about rescue dogs.

Then I thought that the word adopt had a heart for the O and if it was about dogs it would have been a paw.

Yes, this all went through my brain in the 5 minutes we were waiting to check out .

I said to H, 'OMG, I think the t-shirt is about kids, not dogs!' He said, 'Sometimes maybe you should just say nothing.' I definitely talk too much.

I hope I didn't seem like an insensitive idiot to her. I think adoption is wonderful, and I certainly wouldn't purposely compare child adoption to dog adoption. And God bless them if they did adopt a child.

Ugh, I'm such an idiot!!!

Oh geez, AN; there's nothing wrong with what you said. Seriously; it takes heart to adopt kids AND dogs.

Don't keep your mouth shut; I like what comes out of it

I understand AN... I have foot in mouth disease too...

But on the up-side... she probably didn't even think about it past the 2 second interaction you had with her.

PS: When I read the title I thought this was going to be about meditation.

This made me laugh so hard.

I'm like you and will say things and then replay the conversation over and over because I may have mistaken what was said or they mistook me. Heck I even replay things I said over a year ago and cringe.

I like how you seriously put thought into the whole thing It's adorable!

If anything, I'm sure she got a giggle out of it! Don't keep your mouth shut because if you do, we might not have such cute posts like this

Ps..Furbabys are children too and I agree that adopting is awesome!

I think you are sweet. Adoption (child, dogs, cats, etc...) is beautiful.

(((authenticnow)))

Adoption is about giving a living being a loving home. It's all good.

Thank you. You are all so sweet.

Dogs are people in our house, too, but I know not everybody feels the same way .

Jrc, it's funny you said that because I have been telling myself that I need to make time to meditate. Maybe that's the sign that I need to get to it!

AN,

You were just responding based on your own experiences and there's nothing wrong with that.

AN honey the purpose of a vacation is to chill, and you were, and that's why you said it.

Don't worry. Adoption is a wonderful thing no matter what you adopt, kids, dogs, cats, whatever. If someone/something is in need and you help then you should be proud.

I'm sure even if it were about kids she wouldn't be appalled. I wouldn't, and if she was screw her, you aint never gonna see her again anyhow.
