Hi all, I am going on a cruise to the South Pacific Islands later this year with my partner, his 13 yr old son and my 17 yr old son. The boys are sharing an interior room and we have the room opposite with a balcony. The boys get on really well.

The thing is I was really excited but now I am feeling scared and anxious. I hate flying and I am a control freak and I am worrying about storms, sickness even bloody pirates.

People please help me and calm me down.

Flying= ambien/Xanax/books/puzzles/cards/iPad. I flew from LA to Tahiti and it took 4ever!!! I prepared like a small child before a car trip.

Cruise= scopolamine patch; most ships are so stable and they have huge stabilizers

No pirates. Too far removed.

You guys will have a blast!

Thanks PJ I don't get seasick (sailed all my life) but I am terrified about really rough seas. What if we capsize or sink. OMG (embarrassed what if we hit something like the Titanic did?.

I know they don't usually but then again the Concordia did.

Please let me know it's wonderful and smooth and safe and I will spend wonderful times with my family and relax and eat like a pig.

This is what I want.

OMG, you are so fortunate to be able to do this! Cruises are fantastic fun. See if you can get the boys to try the teen club. My kids were shy to go for the first event, but after that I barely saw them. The ship KNOWS how to entertain teens, and it will help them meet other people their age.

You have more risk of getting into a horrible car wreck than anything bad happening on the cruise. Try not to buy trouble!

Part of the fun is the anticipation. Have you checked out cruisecrtic.com? They have forums specifically for your ship and trip. So much fun to post, meet people, read about excursions and things you can do.

You will have a blast!!!!!

Tawnee, I can relate!

I went on my first cruise back in October. flew to Miami to go. we flew a day ahead of departure date to make sure we got there before the boat left (I detest flying early in the morning...) had to meet DD at the ATL airport on the way to MIA (she flew from Baton Rouge and had never flown, much less been in the ATL airport and tried to figure out where to go next) and I made sure we had at least a 2 hr layover in ATL so we could meet up, eat and not miss our flight.
I am always anxious the first time I do anything!I seem to run all the bad scenarios through my head (hoping to be prepared if the worse happens, so when all goes good- I am pleasantly surprised)

I am usually fine once I get where I am going, but so much was new to me (I have flown a lot, no biggie there) I worried about rough seas, getting to the next stop, getting back on the boat in time of course, it would have been ok to have been left @ Grand Turk... and realizing, I wouldn't be done til I got back home! it was an amazing adventure!
oh, I could feel the ship move -our room was on the 10th deck at the very front of the ship (amazing!) but it was like a gentle rocking- I slept like a baby that week! (and was never seasick)
we had a great time! and the next will be much better-
sorry, that was a bit long.

relax. it will be great!

There is a reason cruises are big business--it's because they are reliable and pretty much stress-free way to travel! Don't worry, all will be well. You will have no responsibilities or worries, everything will be smooth as a dream!

So. Jealous.

Went on my first cruise 2 years ago. The balcony rooms are so nice - we slept with the balcony door open all night. Sound of waves, ocean breezes... heaven.

You will all have a great time. Allow plenty of time for the boarding process, and bring a bottle of water for each of you - those lines can be long. And hot.

Have fun!
