So...I go in for my bi-annual teeth cleaning...the woman cleaning my teeth raves about how amazing my teeth look and how great of care I obviously take of my teeth and barely has to scrape or clean much at all.....and takes a full mouth of x-rays because my old dentist kinda dropped the ball on that.

I've had a recurring absess for a few years now...but my old dentist gave me a wash and a syringe to rinse the area whenever it flared up....and it always went away and I never have thought much of it (being the cheap skate I am and how much I HATE going to the dentist - only because I've had so much dental work done between braces, oral surgery, and 2 dental implants that I probably have a Cadillac in my mouth!!!)

ANYHOO.....

The dentist informs me that after looking at my x-rays that one of my teeth (right next to a front implant) is suffering from internal resorption.... and is half hollowed out.... and I will ultimately lose the tooth. I have to have a consultation with a gum specialist to find out the process, costs, etc in about a month.

THIS BLOWS. He said that there is nothing I could have done to prevent it......and its not from decay.... it just "is what it is"....

You have amazing teeth...BUT you are still gonna lose one????!!! WTF!!!!! It took all my power not to break down into tears in his office as he gave me the news...so I waited until I got into the parking lot.....its a LONG and EXPENSIVE process..... and this is the last thing I needed to hear right now.

I, too, HATE the dentist! UGH for your resorption. Sounds painful and expensive. Hopefully they can do a payment plan or something to help you out?

I have 2 gold crowns in my mouth - And ya know how they tell kids if you keep your tongue out of the space where the tooth falls out, a gold one will grow in? Yep, that's what I tell them happened to me! Kids are so gullible. <evil laugh>

I take good care of my teeth, too. But your teeth age along with your body. I got a crack on my back tooth a couple of years ago and had to have a crown. My dentist explained it is just wear and tear and there is nothing you can do about it. I'm 47 and I've had two root canals and three crowns, it's a fact of getting older. You need to start a tooth savings jar - $10 a day should, do it!

Thanks ya'll.... I guess I'm over it. It just sucks. Seems like just when your head pops out of the water..... another raft hits you and you go down again. I actually almost drowned once in the wave pool at a water park once.... I was playing in the whirlpool part near the wall on the side of the wave pool that pulls you aggressively by the current....and it was all fun and games until I went under.....and kept coming up and my head would hit another child's raft....and I couldn't resurface..... I didn't panic until I hit about 3 or 4 rafts...without air....and finally thrashing...I popped up in the middle of the wave pool near the wave maker...and looked up and the lifeguard was posed in position about to jump in to save me. I could swim and was a teenager and frantically and embarrassed waved him off and said I was okay....and humbly swam back to shore....

This time in my life feels like that. Everytime I think I'm about to come up for air.....another damn raft. This tooth is a raft. Maybe the next time I go up, I will reach the surface and can breathe again....
