Hey Friends!

DH takes the Bar Exam in February (he worked his ass off to graduate law school in 2.5 years!! ) I'm looking for advice from those of you who have taken the bar exam or supported someone taking the bar exam.

I've booked a suite at the test hotel in the hopes that the extra room will help him relax and be away from other stressed out test takers.

I'll be there to fetch food for breakfast, lunch and if he needs me to, dinner, so he doesn't have to stress out about that.

I'm making a packing list of things to take (what would you put on it???)

I've made all house sitting, cat sitting, kid sitting arrangements.

What else? Specifically what should I do the day before - days of?

Thanks!!!!!

First of all - after all this is done, I hope he fucking kisses the shit out of you for being such a support. Seriously. You have gone above the call of duty.

Ok, so the kid will need Protein and Carbs to stay focused and full.

Things to pack for him would be anything extra (pencils ect) that he will need for the test. I think you will get information on what you can and can not have during the test. Also, comfortable clothes.

Things to pack for you would be things to do while you are at the hotel waiting for him.

If the hotel has a pool/hottub, i would pack swim gear. Hot tubs are awesome after stressful tests.

I had a friend take the KY BAR Exam....she said it was brutal but she passed.

If he finished law school in 2.5 years he shouldn't worry too much about passing the bar.

Did he do the bar review course? I think that helped me (way back then) to pass because my state actually gave us an actual bar exam, as practice. The key for me was plenty of rest before the exam. Honestly, waiting for the results to be posted was WAY more stressful than the exam itself.

Yeah, he's taking a prep course and is about half a day behind right now, which is stressing him out.

I've read everything I could about supporting a bar studier and have tried to heed warnings. It's been better than I expected....so far....but now that he's almost two weeks out, I'm afraid it will get worse.

Do you remember anything about the hotel experience? Things you wish you had? Preparations you wish you had made?

I didn't do the hotel, I just stayed at home in my office to study. The venue for the bar exam was only 20 minutes from home. However, had it been in the winter, I WOULD have stayed closer to avoid being late for the second day of the test. I was the last to finish my exam as I had a little extra time and went over my answers.

I had no appetite during the 2-day ordeal. For me, the most important thing was staying the heck away from any of the other exam takers. Walking out of each session and hearing a group of people gathered outside comparing answers was enough to make me want to lose my mind. I'm sure someone as motivated as your H will pass with flying colors. How nice of you to be there to support him. Best wishes!
