My BH is at ATLS recert today. We flew to another state for him to do it because he missed the ones locally and he needs it for his job. He is actually an instructor but I don't think he managed to teach enough classes....

He is super sharp and one of the favorite ER docs locally of the physicians, nurses, and patients. (Yes I am biased, but it's true ). But he did not have time to adequately prepare for this and he has dyslexia which makes everything harder and undermines his confidence in test taking.

I'm so anxious for him today. He will be SOOOOO down on himself if he somehow doesn't pass this today that none of his successes will matter.

How can I help and be supportive to him?

I'm on pins and needles.

Sounds like it's out of your hands at this point.
Sending some magic SI MoJo your way.

Certainly he will do well.

I had a trauma cert as a new nurse, and it was tougher than ACLS. But like ACLS each time you take it it becomes easier and easier.

Good Luck DrBff

Thanks Tushnurse. We both are ACLS instructors too and PALS, but ATLS is harder and usually taught by surgeons....I'm sure you know how fun surgeons can be as instructors.

He texted me that he is taking his test now and will call me when he's finished....that was an hour ago.

I hate waiting. AND if this doesn't go well it will ruin the rest of our minication for him.

Prayers, mojo, and whatever you have are welcomed from all!

ETA: was is TNCC Tushnurse? I used to teach that too a billion years ago but I haven't done anything clinical in a long time. I stopped putting hands on patients in 2004 when I changed to case management, then did pop health briefly and then about a year of new parent support. Now I am a SAHM since about June.

I'm thinking of teaching ACLS & PALS at our local hospital (where BH works). My certs are still good but my confidence is down a bit since I've been away from the bedside for so long...

He passed and is on his way back to Branson.

He didn't make his usual stellar high score on the test and he's not happy with his performance but I think it's wonderful. He had no time to prepare. He passed the stinking course and the instructors said more people taking the recert fail than pass. Now we can enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Yeah I was about to say if I can pass it anyone can. it's about 100x harder than ACLS and 2x hard as ALSO. I've never had PALS. So kids, don't choke or code around me!

Congrats and yah TNCC. I too left the bedside in 2007. But I guarantee if I had to play code right now I'd know what to do. Based on whatever the rules were in 2006. You know they have to make subtle changes every few years to keep us on our toes.
