Question  Posted: 8:42 AM, December 24th (Tuesday), 2013View ProfileEdit MessagePrivate MessageHomepage

Just wanted a quick opinion on what the protocol for presents for DD from STBXH's aunt and uncle might be.

STBXH is taking DD to his mother's house the day after Christmas for their celebration. His mother is bitterly divorced from STBXH's father, and the presents in question are from STBXH's father's side of the family.

Do I take those presents to my family's house for DD to open there, or is it more appropriate for STBXH to take them to his mother's house?

(And for the purposes of this question, we'll just ignore the fact that the aunt and uncle emailed ME to find out what DD wanted, because Disney Dad has no clue what his child is into... )

But seriously, all my sarcasm aside...open the gifts on Christmas day at my folks house or send them to the crazy MIL's house with STBXH?

D Day #2 (SA): 7-5-10

WH moved out: 11-18-13
Moved BACK IN (because the lawyer told him to): 11/29/13.

In house separation...fun, fun, fun.

Ah man. In-house is so shit.

Given you are in-house I would leave the gift for STBXH to deal with.

Now, NOT in-house and the aunt/uncle gave the gifts to me my answer would be different.

Yeah, either leave it up to STBXH to figure out, or if he wasn't around I would just have the kids open them with the rest of the stuff in the morning at my house, and call Aunt and Uncle to say thank you.

IMHO if they sent presents to your home open them there. If STBX wants to take them somewhere else then let him, but don't offer to help him with figuring it out.

Presents in your house get opened there, and thank-yous given in person or on the phone, and then by thank-you note.

People aren't expected to transport presents given to them to other places to open them.
