I keep starting new books before I finish the one I am reading. Someone recommends a book or author, a certain book is relevant or helpful in a current situation, a new book in a series is released, something that has been on hold at the library for months suddenly becomes available, I am half way through 4 books, and I really want to start #5. #6 will probably be available before I finish that one. This isn't even accounting for all of the books I started, back-burnered, and forgot I was reading.

I don't have enough time to read them all. It's becoming quite problematic.

Anyone else suffer from this affliction? Management techniques?

LOL. I give a book 50 pages if it doesn't get me in that time, then I don't finish it.

I do tend to read 1-2 books at a time, if I do more than that, they have to be very different topics, one fiction, another history, and another self help, otherwise I get it all confused and jumbled.

I find that if I allow myself 30 minutes a day for me time reading that I get most books read in a timely fashion. I try not to start new books if I have 2 going. If it's something that I really want to read then I will purchase it, and make it Next on my list.

Funny thing is I found about 4 books that I had not read on my Kindle the other night when I was updating billing information. LOL. The one I started then is really good.

I am reading six books, one e-book and listening to four audio books. Are you saying that's not normal? I don't think I hava a problem at all. I never read one book at a time. And I finish them all eventually--unless after 100 pages I really don't like the book. When I was younger I didn't know you were "allowed" to stop a book you didn't like. There are some positives to growing older. lol

I'm a grazer also but I go through phases. Last summer I was in Penny Vincenzi trash novel heaven. I'd read one from cover to cover and go to the thrift store and get another one.

Now I do most of my reading on the IPad and mostly in the half hour before sleep.

Alternating right now between Bleak House and 1984.

I always have my nose in 3-4 books at all times.

I have this problem too! Only, I actually don't even start the book. They sit there looking longingly at me for weeks and weeks on end. I dropped out of book club bc I would not be near finished the book when we were discussing it.

But.

I just finished the Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce!

I started it around Christmas determined to stick with it. I guess its because I connected with Harold almost instantly.

I'm currently reading "Why Men Love Bitches"- a funny book on how to hold your own in a relationship, "Sink Reflections" a book on how to keep your home clean, and I just finished "A Deadly Game - the Scott Peterson story". I started that one just because I didn't follow the event as it was happening and I wanted to see what "really" went down. It was unsettling as OW and XWH have many traits as Scott Peterson.

But thank you for posting this topic, because I thought I was the only one and I was really beating myself up for not being able to finish something. But, some days I am in the housecleaning mood and like reading "Sink Reflections", and sometimes I like laughing with the author in Why Men Love Bitches!

This is definitely me, too!

I started a list that is on the home screen of my computer. A list of the books I want to read, in order. It does help me a little to stay "on track".

I've got this affliction too.

I do tend to read 1-2 books at a time, if I do more than that, they have to be very different topics, one fiction, another history, and another self help, otherwise I get it all confused and jumbled.
Ditto! My usual M.O. is to read Book A (which is usually a lighter read) during lunch at work, Book B (something more in depth and meaty) at home in the evenings.
I also sometimes listen to audiobooks during work as well so that's a third book in the mix...

LOL. I give a book 50 pages if it doesn't get me in that time, then I don't finish it.
I keep telling myself I'll do this, but once I start a book, it has to be REALLY bad for me to put it down. I have to finish most books I start, even if it takes me months to slog through it.

I have this too! I have at least 3 going at all times. One on CD's for when I am in my car, one on my personal CD player for when I am doing stuff around the house (cleaning bathrooms is a bit more pleasant when you can distract yourself) and then at least one on my Kindle. I loved being read to when I was a kid which is why I think I like audio books so much.

Raising my hand. Me too. I usually have 4-5 books going at once. My tastes vary from the classics to new, trashy novels. I have no shame.
