What frustrates me are the abbreviations that aren't in the FAQ about abbreviations.
Many of the abbreviations that have been overlooked in that are being collected in a thread tacked to the top of the General Forum.

I agree on the text speak. I don't use it in texts (except lol or lmao) so I have to stop and translate, and if it's too much, I just leave. Sorry - not trying to not be supportive, but I can't translate all the time.
Regarding the abbreviations - there is a guide in the healing library, but you can also just ask in the thread if it doesn't make sense. No one here is testy or will post a link to the abbreviations as a way to say 'if you don't know, look'. We've all been through enough and are very supportive. If you don't know something, please, just ask.

Abbreviations can be fun! Imagine my serendipitous moment of hilarity when I noticed the license plate on the car ahead of me was a custom plate reading "FTG".
Me = BS (Stay-at-home-mom)
Him = EX-d out (abusive troglodyte NPD SA)

Hahaha Nature_Girl!! FTG, indeed!
I recall a thread about license plates and SIers.... We can't look at a plate with WH or BS or NC or OW without making the connection to this website.

I have a special fondness for "COW". (Coworker Other Woman)
It's not terribly intuitive, but I get to call her a "cow" in passing reference.

I work in the Defence arena, they only speak in abbreviations .
You know you have been on SI too long when something like
1) didn't make you pause
2) required zero translation
3) you didn't notice it wasn't written long hand
4) accurately describes the individual
5) gave you a chuckle in sympathy with the BS

sorry about the t/j (thread jack - like car jack, only I hijacked the thread) but I couldn't resist...
but I do know that on another board I use I have had to catch myself to NOT type WH!
just wait until you start using SI-isms IRL (in real life) speech without realizing it, and people look at you like you've grown another head.
I guess I was lucky, I was involved in several other online message boards before I had the need to find SI. There was a few abbreviations I had to figure out, but I knew most of them, and I was used to writing in internet-speak. I know I'm guilty of forgetting how frustrating it can be for newbies who aren't used to all the abbreviations. Thanks for the reminder.

HOK -- perhaps you've scared dying off with that alphabet-soup!
(soon to be ex)(wayward)(narcissistic personality disordered)(passive aggressive)(sex addict)(piece of shit)(fuck that guy)(husband)
It doesn't take long to learn the abbreviations.

You don't have to do homework. If you see something -- just ask and you'll have at least 3 people tell you the answer within 3 minutes-- we're *helpful* that way
