So I didn't want to post all my Thanksgiving happiness and Christmas Spirit on the other thread since it would have been pretty inappropriate of me

So, who's excited about the holiday season??? I AM!!!!!!! I cant' stand it I'm so excited

We kick our holiday season off by throwing a Pumpkin Pie party where all our friends and neighbors come over and we eat, drink and make pumpkin pies for everyone to take home. We always do it the Saturday before Thanksgiving and we're all surrounded by people we love and that love us. It's really fun!!!!

What traditions do you have planned?

You know I am!!!!
I woke up the day after Halloween thinking "Bring on Christmas!!!!"

I ordered my puppy a new Christmas collar the other day .

I am about two thirds done my shopping. I have a December first deadline. We're taking a family trip the week before Christmas as our big gift. We don't need more stuff so that's what we decided to do. I saved for it all year.

We get back the 23rd. Christmas eve is usually a big party with the inlaws but I have a puppy this year and can't crate him that long, so dd and I will go to my parents (where puppy can come) and dh and ds will go to their party.
Christmas morning is at my house and my inlaws come to open presents with us. Chrismtas afternoon at my parents with all of my siblings. Boxing day is a big extended family party at my Uncles and New Years Day is a big dinner I have here for my inlaws.

The kids and I get a family from the local food bank every year and buy them Christmas presents and dinner. That's one of our favorite traditions. Last year we did something through the church, and this year I think we'll give Unicef survival gifts to teachers and some family.
It changes some years but we always try to give and my kids really look forward to it

I IKNEW you would respond

I love that you do a big family trip as your main gift...that's so wonderful!!!

We don't sponsor a particular family but we do donate a cash amount to our local food bank that will feed 10 families. And then we donate 10 meals to my best friends church to help out their food pantry.

It's going to be a great Christmas!!

Meeeeeeeee!!!!
Thanksgiving is great, but Christmas is my absolute favorite, so the November/December holiday period is my favorite time of the year.

I'd put my Christmas tree up now, but I force myself to do one holiday at a time (plus it annoys me to see Christmas stuff in the stores before Halloween has even occurred).

I've already started some holiday recipe experiments as well as holiday crafting.
I started my Christmas shopping months ago.

So ummm....yeah....I'm ready!

Gaby, our Thanksgiving was mid October. So really once Halloween is over I am free and clear to be a nut
Well.. that's not entirely true. My husband insists we wait until the first of December for a tree. After that all bets are off.. it's like letting a rabid elf off a chain I tell ya.

That is sooo true in my case as well. My husband has had to restrain me on more than one occassion. He loves Christmas almost as much as I do, so if he's restraining me, that should tell you something!

I put our Christmas tree up the day after Thanksgiving and I dont take down the decorations until the weekend after my son's birthday (Jan 9). My poor neighbors...

Since I am working and listening to Christmas music , better count me in!
I love October through December!
Hope to have lots here for Thanksgiving. Christmas is all about doing for others and being together with friends. Most of our families do not live close.

I was never one to enjoy Christmas. My family made it into a big production and not in a good way. Add in factors that I can't discuss in OT....and it was not my favorite time of year. I even bought my husband a Grinch statue years ago because it so fit his personality.

However, we have been actively trying to make Christmas traditions. A couple years ago we started decorating outside with Christmas lights. We buy toys to donate -- that we've done for many years, and it was always my favorite part.

Last year we bought our first live tree with all new decorations. We made our first gingerbread house.

We spent Christmas Day last year alone in the woods on a nature trail, with not another soul around. Saw some carnage from a coyote finding it's Christmas feast, and luckily it wasn't us!

This year we are traveling by train to experience another culture and enjoy Christmas walking tours that will definitely bring out the Christmas spirit in us.

So, I don't know if we will have set traditions other than to no longer be Grinchy about Christmas and instead try new things, making plans and enjoy it.

Growing forward

Tennessee or mountains in New York? I've been searching VRBO and dreaming.

Can't wait for SI Christmas decorations!

I love it. I love every minute of every detail. I am a little insane, but I try to make it fun for my whole family and they all adore it as well. My 17 yo dd said this weekend, "mom why can't we put our tree up now?" LOL

I contain myself until Thanksgiving night, which we spend watching Christmas Vacation in order to kick the season off just right. Drinking eggnog in our moose head glasses, of course.

I went yesterday and got stickers for my Christmas cards ... and I got some tags from Target. I like to do a gift wrapping theme every year. I just love love love this time of year.

I am baking a pumpkin pie tonight. LOL

Thanksgiving has become my family's favorite day of the year. No matter what kind of year we've had, no matter how busy everyone is, Thanksgiving Day is at SIL's house. We get there early to watch Santa arrive, and if you don't yell really loudly, "Hi Santa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" when he's pulling up in his sled, you get reprimanded, especially the grownups. That tradition started with my (Jewish!) MIL, and we all really treasure it now, with her gone.

The Thanksgiving feast SIL prepares is beyond belief. And she invites anybody who has nowhere to go and makes everybody feel welcome. Last year she was just diagnosed with breast cancer and the holidays were filled with worry and dread. This year she is through all her surgeries and treatments and is doing great, so the holidays will be extra special.

Christmas Eve we go to my brother's family's house. Our niece and nephew are little so we enjoy the Christmas magic through their eyes.

Christmas Day is back at SIL's house. More food, gifts, music, laughing, family time.

Each year I treasure it more and more. It's the few times a year I know we will all be together.

Take up your space (and do it well).

ME!!!
I start decorating on the first so we can flip the switch on Thanksgiving night.

DS,
Do you remember back in 2003 when The Today's Show had a "Best decorated house in America?" The called it "Al be home for Christmas" Al Roker did the weather from the winner's home? Anyway, that was my H's daughter & husband who won that. We are all holiday decorating crazy! It's so FUN!!

I can't wait for Thanksgiving. The last several years we have hosted Thanksgiving at our house, and I love making the turkey and the gravy. My wife makes a different stuffing each year, and the leftovers of what we both make are to die for!

Usually the lights go up the day after Thanksgiving... if I can wait that long. I've been known to put the lights up a few days prior, because I like seeing them when I am out walking the dogs at night. We also have a big inflatable Frosty and Santa in our front yard.

As far as the tree goes, I put up the tree and its lights, and my wife and son do the decorating.

For Christmas dinner, I've been alternating between prime rib and lasagna. If we do lasagna, I make two of them: a white spinach lasagna, and a red meat lasagna.

We also have some traditions of taking our pictures around Thanksgiving time with the dogs, and using those pictures for our Christmas cards. We also go to a local waterfall that is lit up each year, and drive through a resort that does an impressive Christmas light display. Another thing we like to do is bake different types of cookies/candies, and prepare plates to walk around the neighborhood and give to our neighbors.

My personal favorite activities have to include sledding with my son, and singing Christmas karaoke songs with my wife.

There's a lot of other things we do to make the holidays special, but these are the biggest highlights, IMHO (In My Holiday Opinion).

This year will be very different. With an almost 19 month old in the mix, it'll be fun. I can't wait to see what traditions my DD adopts for my granddaughter.
